1:41Yeah, here we are.
1:41Mitch:And then Hayden staged a coup.
1:44Hayden decided to swing his military combat boots over the line and insert himself into this.
1:51Mitch:From half a world away. He rallied the troops and sent us tons of text messages that says Tom should take the hot sauce Hashtag support the troops .
2:03Yeah.
2:04Mitch:And, in solidarity, since I've given him an out and we're still going to do it anyways, I'm going to take the hot sauce with him before we start our America episode.
2:13You just spit all over the place America.
2:17Mitch:I don't know what you're doing, america, I was so jolly America. It's all over the mic. So, in support of our listening troops from Iraq.
2:30And elsewhere.
2:31Mitch:Yeah, and our.
2:34Shout out to the Marines in Okinawa that's for you, robert, my brother, I thought you were about to just pour that over your phone.
2:41Mitch:And our spiteful colleague.
2:43Yeah, I'm not. Letting you pour mine, I will pour my own. I, our spiteful colleague.
2:45Mitch:Yeah, I'm not letting you pour mine, I will pour my own. I'm sure, sir, we went ahead and got glasses of water ready, because this stuff's hot Come on Tom.
2:57You know that that is plenty.
2:59Mitch:Come on, Tom.
3:00You know that that is plenty. That is a pea-sized. Barely a pea-sized drop, it's recommend oh my God, I smelt it.
3:08Mitch:Oh God.
3:09All right, hang on. Let me get my top ten list ready so I don't have to suffer and try to do face recognition on my phone.
3:17Mitch:As he's going. Hated, I hate you, man. You are one pathetic loser.
3:31He is, and you know, he's just sitting there going All right, Tom Pardon, the interruption oh. God, I swear, it gets worse every time.
3:51Mitch:Oh, my God, oh, it's so bad.
3:56Oh Jesus.
3:58Mitch:Both at the same time . Oh man, my eyes are burning, my throat's burning.
4:10Oh God, it's horrible .
4:14Mitch:Anyways, in our America episode yeah, we're going to be counting down we're talking about America Ten of our more American movies, not necessarily that feature soldiers and stuff, just movies that embrace America. America, america, yeah, yeah, america. Yeah, I'll start off with my number ten American Sniper. Yeah, america'll start off with my number 10. American Sniper yeah, american Sniping. Chris Cowell, chris Cowell, I mean, it's a great movie. Oh man, this burns. My tongue is like numb, but you know.
4:59It's on the roof of my mouth.
5:01Mitch:It's got a lot of drama to the movie but you can't help. But, like you know, favor the troops. I mean I love watching the movie. It's got a lot of sad parts in it, but god my tongue hurts.
5:15It's a good movie. I haven't seen it in its entirety, but it's a Clint Eastwood film, so you know it's solid. You haven't seen the whole thing no, I haven't gotten around to it oh wow.
5:25Mitch:I mean we kind of know the ending, but yeah, that was before the movie even happened. Oh God Apologize.
5:34You have anything more you want to say about American Sniper?
5:39Mitch:I mean, what's his name? Bradley Cooper does a really good job of portraying the character. I'm about to say character, the person, as far as like his acting, and they do a good job of showing a career in the military over progressing for several years in one in one movie yes, oh God. And I feel like they do a good job of showing the specific, like his tactical training and things that he wouldn't know. My teeth hurt, my tongue still feels numb, and then I touched the roof of my mouth.
6:15Yeah, I got the roof burned too. It's a double whammy. Hayden, I hate you. All right, Tom, it's your turn. What's your number?
6:21Mitch:10? The Sandlot, I hate you. All. Right, tom, it's your turn. What's your number? 10? .
6:24The Sandlot. It's the most American. This was the summer every kid dreamed about growing up playing baseball with your friends, making new friends, running around, sleepovers, campouts, urban legends of your town. And then it all accumulates in a showdown with the Beast, which just turns out to be a giant mastiff dog named Hercules. And Darth Vader is your neighbor.
6:53Mitch:I just love how like they have all these contraptions and stuff, trying to get the ball back.
6:58And like every boy you know and girl you know and whatever their equivalent would be, god, it's so bad. It's hard to talk when you're you got numb tongue.
7:11Mitch:If I stop drinking the water, it just hurts. It just hurts.
7:14It just comes back to life. Like I grew up we had baseball fields. I had a lot of good memories this summer, like my dad would take me and my brother, we'd get our friends and and like we would go play baseball in the same lot. Obviously, you know, we, you know we all had that. Like that one shady looking house, yeah, in the neighborhood out there in eagle estates that was just like oh, that's the, the old johnson house where the lady killed the entire family or something with a shovel or what have you so like growing?
7:51Mitch:up and watching that. That was just like an American childhood great movie Yep, yep, all right. Anyways, my number nine is Rocky IV.
8:00Oh, I got Rocky IV higher.
8:02Mitch:My list isn't necessarily in what rank I would put them in, it's just 10 movies.
8:09Well, yeah, I guess. No, I think I do have these in our rank.
8:14Mitch:Okay, I got Rocky IV because it's all about America beating Russia in boxing.
8:19Oh yeah, well, hearts on fire plays and it's just like you know the Russians. They're using this. You know the stereotypical, like you know big science thing. He's punching the pressure plate and then, like the PSI is going into four digits and it's like that punch would kill you.
8:33Mitch:And Sylvester Stallone's just out there working out in the snow, In the snow running, you know, shakes the KGB.
8:39He's climbing a mountain in a bomber jacket. He goes Drago.
8:44Mitch:I need my tongue to stop hurting. I know I must break you.
8:51It's funny because all the great lines from that movie are all Drago's.
8:53Mitch:Yeah, it's because he's like if he dies, he dies, and that's like he only has like six lines.
9:00Yeah where he's fighting like the Russian, like the political bureau, like the political bureau, like they're all up there and like they're spoofing that it's like Gorbachev or whatever, and then, like the whole, like audience, is like shouting Drago, and then , as the fight keeps going, like Rocky, rocky, their own Russians start cheering for Rocky and they drape him with the American flag.
9:20Mitch:If I could change, if I could change. And I was like yeah, rocky, oh God, your turn.
9:30Apollo 13.
9:31Mitch:That was on my list.
9:33That's an America movie. A, it's the space. You know We've already won the space race. We are just now sending dudes to the moon.
9:41Mitch:Yeah.
9:42And then obviously Apollo 13 suffers catastrophic issue and basically all of NASA has to, has to like come together in a room and be like. These are all the parts that they have figure out how to make that work and then harris is like failure is not an option. And they're like better get to work on this. And like you gotta do this duct tape, this pit this here, put that there, and then you know, turn off this, you gotta save x amount of stuff. And then Gary Sinise, who didn't get to go because he got sick. He was like put me in the module. He was like in the module for like hours at a time while they were in space. Yeah, trying to figure out something and he's like, give me the exact setup they have right now, and he was trying to
10:19figure out how to set it up so they can slingshot around the moon and come in for reentry.
10:25Mitch:You got a movie with Bill Paxton Bill.
10:27Paxton Kevin Bacon and Tom Hanks.
10:29Mitch:Tom Hanks.
10:30Gary Sinise, Ed Harris are the five people I remember.
10:35Mitch:That's some American actors right there America America. The next one on my list is Captain America, the first Avenger. Yeah, it's all about America America. Muscle one on my list is Captain.
10:44America, the first Avenger?
10:44Mitch:Yeah, it's all about America, america, muscle America science.
10:49I've knocked out Hitler a thousand times.
10:52Mitch:He's out there selling war bonds. He's an American.
10:56The hidden gem of that entire movie is Tommy Lee Jones.
11:00Mitch:Yeah, I like when they're in training. Don't look at me.
11:02I'm not going to kiss you, he's out there're in training.
11:05Mitch:Don't look at me, I'm not going to kiss you. I like when he's out there in the training and he just pulls a grenade, tosses it out there, he's like grenade, and then you know he dives on him and the guy like looks at him.
11:14like you know he's got the right stuff.
11:15Mitch:Yeah.
11:16And he's like he's still skinny, he stomps off.
11:19Mitch:when he's like the first one to bring me that flag, can go home or, you know, can go back to base.
11:24With Miss Carter. Yeah, and all the guys are like they're all trying to climb it.
11:29Mitch:What's Chris Evans? Little scrawny Chris Evans just walks over there, pulls the pin , lets the thing fall, grabs the flag.
11:34Yeah, and just hands it to the guy. He just gets it to the chief. He's like I won.
11:40Mitch:Yeah, it's a good movie, Just hunting down Nazis, nazis. All right, what's the next one you got?
11:47Zero Dark Thirty.
11:48Mitch:Yeah, I didn't think about that. That's a good one.
11:53You know, actually you know, the hunt down and raid and assassination of Osama bin Laden. You all right there.
12:03Mitch:Like an extra. Come back alive in my nose.
12:05Ugh Ugh. That happened to me one time.
12:09Mitch:Oh god Continue.
12:11Berserker. I mean it's a Longer Drawn out movie. Yeah, it's heavy on the acting and the dialogue and just you know certain things. But then they eventually when it's just like We've narrowed it down, like you know, it's like an above, like 50, 50 he's gonna be there. Yeah, that they think he's gonna be there and they're just like and she's like I wanted to drop a bomb but they told me I had to use you guys, and it's like all the seals are sitting there and they all have like beards and like polo shirts on and they're like grilling and they're just outside dipping and spitting everywhere playing football. She's like I wanted to drop a bomb. They said I had to use you guys . It's like, don't F this up.
12:45And then they were in, like the super secret helicopter One crashes, I like when they're flying, the one guy's just like, raise your hand. If you've been in a helicopter crash. And all of them just go and raise their hands, it's like all right, we're good.
13:01Mitch:Well, the next one I had on my list was Apollo 13, but since we talked about that, I'll continue on to Forrest Gump yeah.
13:09I mean, he does everything, the most American of everything an idiot in the right place at the right time in history playing college football for Alabama, for Bear Bryant. He might be the stupidest son of a alive, but he sure is fast he gets up there at the Washington Monument.
13:28Mitch:He might be the stupidest son alive, but he sure is fast. Then he gets up there at the Washington Monument and he's doing the speech and when he comes back from NOM as a Medal of Honor recipient.
13:35Yeah.
13:36Mitch:Then you got the guy that's been abusing Jenny.
13:43He's like go back to Greenbow, alabama. I'm sorry I had to fight in the middle of the Black Panther party.
13:50Mitch:So they let me play ping pong. His best buddy, he made the military lieutenant dance.
13:58Lieutenant dance ice cream, ice cream lieutenant dance, try out my sea legs. But, lieutenant Dan, you ain't got no legs. I know that.
14:03Mitch:I know that it was great. You got some no legs. I know that. I know that it was great Got some bubble gum, bubble gum, shrimp.
14:10Coconut shrimp, barbecue shrimp shrimp on the thing, and then they're scrubbing the floor with toothbrushes and he goes that's about it. And then he just looks at him and goes, hmm, and then he just keeps going why did you assemble that? Weapon so fast Because you told me to Dinosaur was outstanding.
14:30Mitch:I like how we thought of the same one. At the same time, you will be a general subject. That's a great movie. I love that.
14:37I love Pong Ping Pong , all right.
14:39Mitch:Continue on with your next one.
14:41My next one was Rocky IV. Okay, with your next one, my next one was Rocky IV, okay, which we talked about.
14:45Mitch:Go on to the next one then.
14:46Air Force One.
14:46Mitch:Air Force One, get off my plane.
14:48Plane. It doesn't get cooler than Harrison Ford playing the President of the United States on Air Force One killing Russian bad guys.
14:57Mitch:Steven Seagal.
14:59No, he's not in that one, that's the one with Kurt Russell. I was thinking Steve's goal had like a short part that he gets killed in.
15:08Mitch:No, that's not that one.
15:08Oh, okay, Well darn, it's not Under Siege. What's the name of that one?
15:12Mitch:No, no, no, I'm saying Steve's goal plays like a bad guy for the first time and he gets killed real quick, or something like that.
15:18No, he's a good guy. That's the one with Kurt Russell where, like they have, like it's the stealth bomber and they hook up to the bottom of the plane. But like turbulence happens and it's going to rip the thing and he's like you guys can make it and he closes the hatch and then the plane gets with the wind and he just goes wee.
15:32Mitch:Yeah, that's what I was thinking of.
15:34Okay, yeah but Air Force One Harrison.
15:37Mitch:Ford is the president .
15:40I swear Harrison Ford in the 90s could have ran for president and probably won, just because it's Jack Ryan.
15:46Mitch:That's a man that runs America Harrison Ford, harrison.
15:51That's almost like an American name.
15:56Mitch:Harrison Ford.
15:57He's named after a president and a car company in one name.
16:01Mitch:My next one is we Were Soldiers.
16:04I love that one. We talked about that one with the Father's Day episode but you know it's a good American movie . First major conflict with the US and Vietnam.
16:12Mitch:Yep. It shows all their training and stuff Mel Gibson, sam Elliott, leading a platoon.
16:19Sam Elliott. You just have this like Sam Elliott.
16:24Mitch:Yeah, he goes out there and he's fighting with a pistol and he's standing in the middle of the smoke.
16:27It's like the real Basil Plumlee. He didn't like the M16 because he thought it was a cheap piece of crap. It was made out of plastic and it jammed a lot back then. It wasn't suited for the jungle .
16:38Mitch:True.
16:38They had to make a lot of modifications to get it to really become dependable on what it is now Okay. And he asked if he could take his M14, and they were like no, we're phasing those out for these. He goes. Well, I'm just going to carry a lot more ammo for my .45 because that's made out of steel and that works.
16:54Mitch:All right, what's your next one?
16:57Miracle.
16:57Mitch:Miracle, that's the hockey one right the hockey movie where the USA beats Russia in 1980 at Lake Placid in the Olympics. Oh, I haven't seen that movie.
17:07So the story is? I mean, they didn't have to beat Russia to get gold. Yeah, they had to beat, I think , finland for gold, but in the 1980 Olympics Russia had already won, like the last, like four gold medals in hockey. Like the Soviet Union team was, they were all professional hockey players.
17:28Mitch:Okay.
17:29In Russia. Like that's, all they did year-round was play hockey. They were like the best team in the world because they had like an NHL all-star game against them and they beat the crap out of the NHL guys. And then they had like a scrimmage match with them. They got the snot beaten out of them and then Herb Brooks, the coach of the USA team, put together Like they were all college kids. None of them were pro players at all Because I don't think at the time they were allowed to use pro players. That's what I heard, for like a lot of the Olympic stuff, but Russia circumvented it because they were all in the military too, okay, and then Russia just didn't care either. They're like we're Russia, we can do what we want.
18:08Stop us, yeah. But it was also the first time the Russians, or a team that won like gold, silver or bronze, didn't have their names engraved . The Russians just like took their medals and left because they were so mad that they lost to us. But you know my dad, who was alive when it happened. You know 1980, he's like it was a big moment in America just because, like you know, the end of the Carter administration, inflation's through the roof, everything sucks no gas, nothing , the Iranian hostage. You know crisis. We go into 1980, we get Reagan and it's like all right, things are looking all right. And then it's like we're going to play Russia in the Olympics and the USA hockey team and they won and it was like one of the
18:47best sports calls ever. I think it's on Michaels and he was like young when this was going on and as like the USA is up 4-3 in the third period and as they go down to like 20 seconds, the crowd starts chanting the countdown as Russia is just scrambling for their life to try to tie up the game, let alone win. And I guess it's going like 10, 9, 8. And now Michaels is like he's counting with the audience. He's like 10, 9. He's like do you believe in miracles? And then it gets to one buzzer. It's like yes, and everyone loses it. So they drape Mike Aruzzione in the American flag. He was the captain of the USA team and everybody's just losing their minds. It's so great.
19:29Mitch:Well, the next one on my list is Talladega Nights. Ricky Bobby Gotta, stop Frenchie, the French trying to take over NASCAR.
19:39I hate Will Ferrell. I do not like his movies. I don't think he's that funny.
19:43Mitch:I used alienated like half our audience.
19:46There's some things like the movie Elf. I can't stand that movie. I want to punch him in the face .
19:51Mitch:Elf is one of my favorite of his movies.
19:54I hate that movie. He's just so obnoxious.
19:58Mitch:I was like he's out there, If you don't chew Big Red , you Merck. It's a Jack-off Black Hawk knife or whatever.
20:08He's literally like Cartman when he went to NASCAR.
20:10Mitch:Left turn.
20:15That's like an.
20:16Mitch:American movie. He loses his nerve to race, so his dad puts him in a car with a cougar, for no reason.
20:25Like a real cougar, yeah. Or a girl, oh. Like a real mountain lion.
20:33Mitch:So then he gets his confidence back, and then all of a sudden the lion's in the back going and he's like, what's up? Just keeps on driving. Yeah, If not first, you're last , yeah.
20:43I remember that I'm coming to you like a spider monkey. These are the most misbehaved children I've ever met.
20:50Mitch:Chip, I encourage you , I encourage you to disrespecting you. Yeah, that movie is stupid, but it's funny. It is stupid, alright, it's stupid but it's funny.
21:00It is stupid, all right, what's your next one? The Patriot.
21:02Mitch:Patriot With Mel Gibson. That's on the list. Yeah, Nothing more Patriot than us beating the crap out of the British.
21:09Well, the British were. You know, they were doing really really well at that point too.
21:12Mitch:They lost to people they shouldn't have lost to, because we're America.
21:16America.
21:21Mitch:This is the birth of America. They're stupid enough to wear red in the woods and stand in straight lines to fight?
21:24Yeah, but they won.
21:26Mitch:For a good while, yeah.
21:27When they did that.
21:28Mitch:Well, because they had the numbers and the firepower.
21:31Yeah, and the discipline to stand there and do it.
21:36Mitch:The stupidity to stand there and do it. I'm not saying it was a great way to fight conflicts Mitch but I'm just saying I mean, you know, to me only an idiot stands there and waits for you to be shot at when they're taking volleys.
21:47Yeah.
21:48Mitch:Screw that. There's trees, there's cover.
21:51Concealment, perhaps Anything.
21:54Mitch:And not bright red. You know outfits, but yeah, I mean that's, it's the epitome of a patriot. Yeah, that whatever Of a patriotic movie.
22:07What was that? It was, like some Brian Regan's , the Epitome of Hyperbole, which was the epitome of hyperbole. That's how people say it.
22:16Mitch:But I mean, you know, yeah, he loses, loses Two sons, Two sons. But I mean you know, yeah, he loses his Two sons, Two sons, but the first one's what causes him to enter the war.
22:23Where he goes full on like Like you, just like Everybody's, just like oh, he was, you know, a bad man back in the day in the French and Indian War. And then you know, he comes running out, he's got the tomahawk, a bunch of weapons, he's staging weapons and he basically just takes out an entire British convoy by himself .
22:40Mitch:Yeah, I mean he has two sons with him, but they were more distraction than anything.
22:44And they're rescuing his son, but they're watching their dad just butcher people now at this point and he's just covered in blood with a tomahawk and a knife and they're just like oh, okay, and he's just like I understand, though I understand it needed to be done, america. The only thing that would have been better is if he was doing it in front of other British soldiers, and they just ran away Like, ah Well, one of them does run for his life and he still pegs him in the back with the tomahawk.
23:09Mitch:He tries to run away. He's like oh yeah, my next one on my list is Red Dawn.
23:17I got Red Dawn number one.
23:22Mitch:Oh, list is red dawn. I got red dawn number one. Oh, I just let me it's on my list. But yeah, you know some invading force tries to come in the russians.
23:26Well yeah depending on what and like the south. Now 1984, red dawn not that new crap with josh peck, I'm talking. Red dawn with charlie sheen and patrick swayze and Booth and like half the Brat Pack. Oh, I'm still getting indigestion. Yeah, oh, jesus and the birds.
23:46Mitch:But yeah, I mean, you know, you got the Russians trying to invade by parachute.
23:53It worked, you think, when that movie came out, because, like they managed to seize like 70% of the United States in one operation.
24:02Mitch:I think they overestimated how easy it would be.
24:06But you think the Russians saw that movie and went . Could we pull that off? Nah, nah, nah nah, nah, nah.
24:14Mitch:Can we figure that out? Can we do that? There's too many guns, especially out west in that part of the country, to be just dropping in from the sky.
24:23That's like what even the Japanese knew. They knew they couldn't invade the mainland United States. It's just like there's more guns there than people. Every blade of grass is going to be some farmer and a gun with them.
24:35Mitch:If they come parachuting in, you'd have people sitting in a lawn chair just skeet shooting Dolores, I got another Woo, yeah, call Dale , I'm up to ten. I mean it would just be like a shooting gallery if they were parachuting in.
24:52Especially if they go to the inner cities. What are they going to do? Are they going to land in Baltimore? Are they going to get lit up by gang members?
24:58Mitch:I was going to say, yeah, gang members would wipe them out, just to get the guns.
25:03Mm-hmm.
25:06Mitch:But yeah, Red Dawn, you got the Wolverines, which is a bunch of kids that basically wreak havoc on the entire military that drops in and then Powers Booth is like the Air Force pilot, yeah, who gets shot down, and then basically like teaches them like military stuff too.
25:18Yeah, so down and he basically like teaches them, like military stuff too, so they become even more formidable or formidable.
25:23Mitch:My next one which, and I think because we've kind of- wasn't it my next one well, yeah sure go ahead skipping me top gun. Marker Got the need for speed.
25:44Top Gun's yeehaw, Chester's dead. Holy crap, it's Viper. He's probably saying holy crap, it's Maverick and Goose. Yeah, I'm sure he's saying that .
25:53Mitch:Yeah, I'm sure that's what went through his mind.
25:55Like no other flying movie was that awesome.
26:00Mitch:What's the guy that he's in all the Chevy Chase movies From? Like the vacation movies, it's Eddie.
26:08Oh, cousin, eddie.
26:09Mitch:Yeah, what's that actor?
26:10Dennis Quaid, no, randy Quaid.
26:12Mitch:Isn't that him?
26:13No, he's not in that. He's an independent star.
26:15Mitch:No, I was thinking Randy Quaid was the one that was like I need, I want some butts. Penn State. No, I was thinking Randy Quaid was the one that was like I need , I want some butts. That's not him?
26:20Oh no, that's not him .
26:21Mitch:Oh.
26:22The air traffic controller guy.
26:23Mitch:Yeah, with the glasses on. I thought that was him. Oh, but yeah, Traffic controller.
26:28Towers ghost ride. Requesting a flyby Negative ghost ride. The pattern is full.
26:32Mitch:I like he comes out of the office.
26:33Time to buzz the tower Goose.
26:35Mitch:This is a good idea. He comes out of the office. There's coffee. He's all spilled all over.
26:39I want some butts. Or where he leaves the office and crashes into the guy with all the coffee cups again. He's like God damn it. That's twice as he looks and he yells it at Maverick and Goose and storms off like did you know that those? Were the two guys, though Everybody had cool names, and the F-14s just look awesome.
27:02Mitch:Everybody's out there playing volleyball in their jean shorts and jeans.
27:06Yeah, sunglasses and tape, and it's just like, oh my God.
27:09Mitch:I like how they play volleyball, but they're like flexing as they're doing it.
27:14Manly, also mildly like homoerotic.
27:21Mitch:The last one I had on my list that we haven't already talked about is Independence Day. That was my next one America coming together.
27:29Fighting aliens. The world coming together, but mostly America.
27:31Mitch:Yeah, I mean mostly, you see America, the.
27:33President of the United States gets into an F-18. It's just like I'm a combat pilot.
27:37Mitch:still, they're just like yeah, combats pilots fighting with crop pilots into an F-18. It's just like I'm a combat pilot still. They're just like, yeah, combat pilots fight with crop pilots. Yeah, randy Quaid driving. Hello boys, I'm back Right up the tailpipe of the alien Woo.
27:54Jeff Goldblum, it needs a cold.
27:58Mitch:Yeah, because that makes sense.
27:59Download a virus and shut down their whole system.
28:01Mitch:Because our viruses would work on an alien computer. Like we could develop that strong of a virus Like they've traversed space.
28:12Well, no, I remember in the movie like they had already captured one of their flying ships from like the 50s.
28:18Mitch:Yeah.
28:19And had been like tinkering with it and trying to figure it out. And then he figures out how to upload to it.
28:25Mitch:Because he's smart. He's Jeff Goldblum. He made a virus in 24 hours that could affect a mothership.
28:31Well, you know, we don't know what their firewall protection was like. The computer was probably like what is it? Ugh.
28:39Mitch:It is a good movie though.
28:40It's a lot of fun, it is.
28:42Mitch:I like it when Will Smith opens the original ship, welcome to Earth. He just punches the thing in the face and he's dragging it through the While smoking a cigar and yelling he's like and he runs and starts kicking the crap. What the hell is that smell?
28:59That was when everyone liked Will Smith. Yeah, before he started smacking Chris Rock.
29:03Mitch:I mean I'm okay with him smacking Chris Rock. Chris Rock gets annoying, I'm sure, eh, eh. But I mean that's all the movies I had for the list.
29:15My number one was Red Dawn.
29:16Mitch:Red Dawn.
29:17okay, Because they don't get more America than Russia, invading America and American people. American kids you know high schoolers forming the Wolverines , named after their high school football team, hiding in the woods with weapons and wreaking havoc on them and actually having great success, to the point that the because I think it's like the Nicaraguans. Okay, they're like South American at first.
29:45Mitch:Yeah, and thenussians have to come in themselves right to deal with it. Yeah, I forgot about that. That they had, like the south, our south american, like entry force, I guess. But uh, yeah, that's, that's our america list america. Now that I've taken all this hot sauce, my nose is running, still throat burning.
30:07Mine's subsided finally.
30:09Mitch:Well, moving on to a little bit of stuff that we've watched to review, after Hayden kind of convinced me to watch Hitman on Netflix, yeah, you were telling me and Rachel about it. It's a romantic comedy and I'll read you a little synopsis here real quick. It says a professor, moonlighting as a hitman of sorts for his city police department, descends into dangerous, dubious territory when he finds himself attracted to a woman who enlists his services. So basically this teacher is working with the local police department and he's like the sound guy for the undercover guy that goes in that is pretending to be a hitman to be hired, and once they pay he walks out. Then the police run in and arrest the person for trying to
30:52Mitch:hire a hitman. Well, the hitman basically has to step aside for his job for some underhanded reasons that he has been involved with. And so this guy I can't remember what his name is, oh, gary Johnson is his name has to step in. He takes over, he becomes what was his name in the movie. Let's see what was his name in the movie. Let's see. I can't remember what he uses his name. Oh, he becomes Ron. That's his hitman name, ron.
31:30Ron, ron the hitman.
31:32Mitch:He's just very good at reading people and fitting the narrative that they need to trust their hitman. So he would dress up and stuff a bunch. Well, this female that wants her husband killed she he, you know uses this persona, ron. So he starts becoming Ron because that's who she knows him as. So he keeps playing this one character and eventually he talks her out of hiring him and they think that's not good. So they're kind of questioning that. But then he kind of brushes it off and then he kind of starts getting into a relationship with her. But he has to be Ron and she thinks that he's like this killer and she's not getting along with her husband and her husband comes up dead and they have to figure out what's going
32:19Mitch:on. The police are trying to figure out who killed him and it wasn't Ron. She is part of this, you know, mingled in. They think that she did it because he took out a million dollar, uh, life insurance policy. But he's also involved with like underhanded drugs and stuff like that.
32:36So who's stars in this movie?
32:38Mitch:Uh, Glenn Powell, which was in the most recent Top Gun. It played Hangman. And then Adria Arwona.
32:50Sound it out, but you can do it.
32:54Mitch:It's that.
32:56She was in Morbius.
32:58Mitch:She's been in True Detective Father of the Bride, like the newer, I guess remake and then there's Austin Amelo, which he I don't know. If you remember in the Walking Dead, the guy that had like the burnt face kind of stuff, he was one of Negan's guys.
33:14Oh yeah.
33:16Mitch:He plays the kind of underhanded hitman that has to step away for a bit. But really they're the only big actors in this. But it's a funny movie and it's actually based on a true story. Except for the ending it's a little different. They wanted to make it fit for a more comedic ending. I mean, I would recommend seeing it right now. It's a 7 out of 10 on IMDb. I'd say that's pretty fair. It's on Netflix. It's a Netflix original movie, so I would encourage you to watch it if you get a chance. You and Rachel would enjoy it, I think.
33:50We're still going through the second season of Doctor Death.
33:54Mitch:Okay.
33:56So we watched two more episodes last night and now it's like the buddy cop doctor team is going after him now because they tried limp-wristedly. Is it still the same two?
34:04Mitch:No, it's not.
34:05Christian Slater. No, it's not them. These are the new guys, okay. All new people All new stuff Gotcha, but there's one girl like the episode we watched because he does the tracheotomy transplant thing with the biosynthetic crap. That doesn't work. It's a piece of crap. It's killing people. So it starts killing her and they just show how many surgeries of stuff that he had to do, like the other doctor who's investigating him, to just keep her alive and try to save her. Every time it was like 197 surgeries.
34:37Mitch:For one person.
34:38On one person.
34:39Mitch:That's a little much. I mean just a little.
34:41Because like they do an exploratory Not him, the Dr Death guy to see like what's going on inside, like an exploratory, before they're going to do the transplant. And they're like, oh man, like her lung, like it looks bad. And he and they're like, oh man , like her lung, like it looks bad. And he just goes like he's like , get me a cart, he's like we're taking it out and he just takes out her right lung and then like the other doctor's, like yelling and like he has to go through all these damn surgeries with this poor woman and like she's going blind. Her organs are shutting down, her hair's falling out Like they out, like they're just like, like she is just like hanging on to life, like that she like crashes on the on the table a
35:18couple times and they're trying to resuscitate her like all in this one surgery all in over, like the course of the episode, as they start going through all these surgeries gotcha because, basically, when he takes out the lung because it's, it's an elective search. It can't be an elective surgery. It has to be like a quality of life, like last--ditch effort surgery.
35:34Mitch:Yeah.
35:35Because he took out the lung. Now it qualifies.
35:37Mitch:Oh.
35:38And they're like, and then they're going through his research, which is all made up Uh-huh and like all of this stuff, like his degrees, it's like it's, it's like this guy's just experimenting on people.
35:47Mitch:Yeah, dr Kevorkian.
35:49Yeah, no-transcript stuff. You put this woman through it's like it's all your fault, though it's all you and then like manny moore, who's like ex-fiancee, like she finds his where they're gonna live in spain. It's just an empty lot.
36:14Mitch:Yeah.
36:15So they eventually they find him in his house and he's married and has kids and she's like what the and it's just, like you know, showing that this guy's just a wild manipulator and a lunatic. But so far it's still really good. I don't know what we're going to watch next, probably the first season, just so she can say what she saw Because the first season's, I think, a little bit better. This season's very, very good. This is like an 8 out of 10 season. Season 1 was like a 9.5 out of 10 season.
36:47Mitch:Do you have any news?
36:49Yeah, I saw some stuff about Elden Ring. Okay, because some people have been able to play shadow of the earth tree which comes out on 21st. So when you time you listen to this, it's already out and we'll already be talking about it. But there's just some uh, what you do and do not need to do okay so, obviously, to get to the point for the dlc, you have to beat mogue, which I helped mitch do last night by getting him through, because we might be setting ourselves up for a harder time because we're doing this in New Game Plus.
37:22Mitch:Yeah.
37:24Which you know bosses do more damage and they have more health. So it's kind of like I remember this game being a little easier at this level, because I'm level 198. Yep, and you're 230?
37:37Mitch:249. Oh, oh, my god, you're just cheesing your brains out over there.
37:44So to get mitch there , I mean, if you, if you have not gotten there and you want to know how this is tom's way to do it you need to get the dectus medallion, to unlock the dectus lift and unlock the altus Plateau, get a Sight of Grace, because if you don't have that, you can't start the Redon Festival Right. For the Redon Festival, obviously you've got to fight your way through Caled, get to Castle Redmayne. You fight two bosses and then you fight in the Redon Festival and against Redon. I recommend doing it solo on a horse and just so many people, and let them do it for you, yeah , and not like cooperators, like actual people, like the npc people, because they did a miraculous job, while I just rode around watching from
38:27another hill.
38:27Mitch:Yeah, you just ride around and keep someone.
38:27I just rode around, kept some of them and then, I think, redon came at me one time and like he'd barely clipped my damage bar and I was like I could take this guy if I had to and I was like, nah, we'll have to summon Sandalus. And then they did it and I won. So then you got to go to the Rose Church in Laurnia, south of Ray Lucaria. Talk to NPC guy. He's the NPC. You see, at the very beginning of the game. That you should not attack For any reason, and if you do, it'll mess up the game completely.
38:58Mitch:Hated.
38:59Hated, hated. So you'll talk to him. He'll give you the festering bloody finger. You invade three worlds. You come back. He gives you the cloth you got to dip in the maiden's blood. There's already a dead maiden you could find at a church. What was the church name? Do you remember?
39:20Mitch:I had it. I don't remember, I just know it was close to the Dectus Lift.
39:24Yeah, if you're looking at the Dectus Lift, you go south there's a fort and then left it's the Church of something. You go there, you can dab it and then you go back to the NPC guy at the Rose Church and you get the seal or whatever that you can activate and it'll take you to Mogwin's Palace or the Mogwin Dynasty, mazel William, whatever that grace point is, and then you run for your life because you can't fight those guys in the dark Right, because those dudes are strong yeah. I was like these guys are tougher than some of the bosses but you can outrun them if you just keep running just keep running, just keep running, get to the next grace, and then you go up to lift, boom mug fight. And then I did it with randos, just to make it easy, because
40:07three people makes it quite, you know, manageable to fight bosses I found one guy that was like buck naked, yeah, with a pot on his head, and it's like I need that guy.
40:14Mitch:I found one guy that was like Buck naked, yeah.
40:15With a pot on his head and it's like I need that guy.
40:17Mitch:I found one guy that was standing there with no weapon in his hands. It's like that's the guy I'm summoning. I was like.
40:22That's confidence. That guy knows what he's doing. This is his day. He's been waiting.
40:27Mitch:Yeah, he's been waiting for somebody to summon him.
40:31And today's the day. So then after that you do the Moog fight and you beat Moog Because Mikala is supposed to be . I showed you the trailer earlier. The red-headed guy looks like Sauron, without armor, with the fiery red eyes. That's him, and the egg thing behind him apparently. So I guess he comes back to life Somehow, yeah, or rejuvenates, if you will. But for this it's like what you first. I want to start with what you do not need to do, and that is to try and grind really hard to get your power level up super high before the dlc starts past a certain point. It will not help you at all. The way the dlc works is that it flattens the difficulty curve instantly for all players. If you are strong enough to do the thing you do need to do beat
41:19Moe to access the DLC. You are strong enough to play Shadow of the Earth Tree. I mean, you're going to get destroyed initially, but that's sort of the point of FromSoft games. This is more or less like starting a 1.5 sequel. For example, I played the DLC starting at around 170 or so. The Washington Post's Gene Park starred at 700. So you got a way to go, mitch.
41:44Mitch:Yeah.
41:45A result of his crazy grinding of the first game, but our experience seemed essentially similar in terms of the difficulty curve for the DLC . That's because the main way you power up in the game is through two new currencies Scattered tree fragments and revered spirit ashes. These increase your attack and defense and your summons scaled on your current power level, but is overwhelmingly the case that simply finding those fragments is what makes you stronger in time, some of which appear when you find very clearly marked sites of grace, some of which are found delving the deepest dungeons of the map. So basically, they're saying there's no reason to rune farm, to go to the cheese, to come in thinking you're going to waltz
42:31in as a juggernaut because as soon as you go into the DLC it's going to scale right where right, where you're at. So me at 198. I'm just gonna stay at 198 I guess, because you know it's costing me more than a quarter of a million runes.
42:45Mitch:To level up now yep, I think it costs you half a million runes now to level up.
42:49Yep, so I mean, uh, you saw the trailer. What do you think you like it?
42:55Mitch:I mean it looks like really interesting. I've enjoyed the Elden Ring. Like Tom was saying, we played some last night and it was fun again. It was difficult playing on New Game Plus, but it was still fun . I'm having to get used to the controls and the timing there's some.
43:08I feel like I have an easier time now in New Game Plus, which is weird because there's, like you know, guards or whatever. I was like, oh yeah, these guys and I just like waltz through it, swinging giant tree trunk swords, taking them out at you know medium, like they couldn't get close enough to hit me for some of them and then some spots I'm just getting murked, and not by bosses, by like these, like one guy he's got like a rapier and then he's got like a full auto crossbow that shoots fire and he's like, and he just lights me up and I watch my uncle and I'm like what what, what, and I'm just losing my mind. All right, tim, no, I'm better than tim. You watch tim play? Yeah, I'm better than tim.
43:50Yeah, tim's bad, but it's been fun watching tim and like, like a lot of the streamers are getting back into the game because, out of disrespect, he hadn't beaten it when it first came out, but now he has beaten the game and watching him fight. He finally struggles and gets through Radagon and then gets to the Elden Beast, gets killed, like almost immediately, runs back to the boss door and it's Radagon standing there. He's just like, like he's done with the beast again.
44:18Mitch:It's like nope, you gotta go through it all over. I like watching it. He like beats the guy the first you know phase and he's like yeah, yeah. And he's watching the cut scenes like wait what? And then when the health bar shows up for the second phase, he's just looking at the screen like you got to be kidding me. You got to be kidding me.
44:35I remember fighting when I beat Ratty Young. You and I think I fought with you and Evan. The two of you died, yeah, and it was just me, and we had gotten him to like the Eldon part of his name. And you're just like listening to me like scream and lose my mind and then it's like I did it . I will say that game is very rewarding. You do feel accomplished. Yes, you know accomplishment when you take out a boss some of them. I jacked my mimic up like he went on like a rocky four, like workout power quest yeah with set to 80s music. I can't I one boss. I can't remember who it is. I rang the bell and I just stood back and watched my Mimic just run at him. I was just in his way. I was like the Mimic is having an easier time beating this game
45:26than I am.
45:28Mitch:Yeah, Like I said, it's a lot of fun. I'm interested to see what all new stuff you can get Armors weapons.
45:38What hellish things I'm going to have to fight now. This is weird because we haven't even beaten the main quest. Now on New Game Plus.
45:47Mitch:On New Game Plus? No, we hadn't. But we'll move on to a little bit of news that I have the director from Evil Dead Rise, which is the most recent Evil Dead movie, lee Cronin. He's set to make some kind of atomic monster film In the vein of Godzilla. I guess, Kind of like what's that Cloverfield, when it's just some kind of big monster that's destroying the city From space. Yeah, I don't know exactly what it is. It just says Warner Brothers is putting it together. It's an April 2026 release, but he's putting together some kind of big horror atomic monster movie. The next thing I have is Blue Beetle is having his own animated series. The guy from have is Blue Beetle is having his own animated series.
46:37Mitch:The guy from the movie Blue Beetle. He's going to be voicing the character in the animated series . Didn't the movie not do well? It did okay. Not great, but I mean it did okay. I think it at least made its money back a little more. Let's see, Emily Blunt is going to be starring in Steven Spielberg's next big film and it doesn't say what it will be, but it will be a major event film. So I'm assuming it will be like a story based on a big historical event of some sort and Spielberg's MO sometime they said it's going to be on the scale of Jurassic Park War of the Worlds.
47:16Indiana. Jones so things like that. Oh, I did watch a new show.
47:24Mitch:You did.
47:27The first episode of season two, the House of the Dragon.
47:31Mitch:Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, I've been watching some of that and been watching some of the Boys.
47:34Oh yeah, How's the Boys?
47:35Mitch:season four it's good , it's interesting. People are complaining because they're like oh, they're just making fun of the right-wing politics. I'm thinking they kind of are, but in my opinion they kind of have it backwards.
47:53Because isn't the boys like a satire almost?
47:54Mitch:Yeah, there's one disturbing scene in episode two where you know the guy that plays God in Supernatural.
48:06Yeah.
48:07Mitch:He's the creator of Supernatural, I guess the writer . Well, he's also the writer of the Boys, but he plays a character in here that can split himself apart into other versions when he doesn't. He's naked and he's full-on naked in the show.
48:21But uh, Look, nudity's not nude with the boys.
48:24Mitch:He's really like a really hard crush on this one girl. That's like a talk show, like a podcaster. Well, the Frenchie and the Curico Amico or Curico, I can't remember but they're basically sent to follow him and they sneak in to hit the locker room that he'd gone into and they find him with himself and more of himself engaging in acts. It's like oh, oh God.
48:56Just because he can, doesn't mean you should.
48:57Mitch:Frenchie opens the door and they's like oh, oh God. Just because he can, doesn't mean you should. Frenchie like opens the door and they're like oh. And he's like I was hoping you wouldn't see it, because you just hear like grunting. And the stirring of mac and cheese and then you see it, it's like oh, ah, you didn't have to show me. No, ah, yeah it. You didn't have to show me no. Ah yeah, it's disturbing. And then he gets to do a fight while naked, like six of them. They're all fighting each other , fighting the good guys, and stuff. It's disturbing, that is gross, yeah, so Anyways, house of the Dragon.
49:36I mean, it's the first episode, so you know we got. You know we got to recover what happened. Excuse me the sauce. You know a lot of talking, a lot of planning, a lot of plotting, a little bit of murder like horrible murder.
49:52Mitch:Yeah, I was surprised by that.
49:53I was like, damn Well , I'm not surprised Game of Thrones did that.
50:00Mitch:Or sorry, house of the dragon. Just because they've done that before, I don't remember it with that brutality. But at that you know stage, but yeah okay, so yeah, that was like. Yeah, I was like that was horrible and then, uh, I also been watching m Kingstown. They're season three. I think, they're on episode three. It's pretty good They've had like the, because it's about prison gangs and gangs outside, how they influence each other. Well, you had one season where it was the blacks that were like the leader. You know they're the problem. Well, then it became kind of the Hispanics in season two and now it's the Aryans in season three that are like the main problem and it's interesting to see how the inside can influence
50:44Mitch:the outside and all the politics that go around it. And you know Mike McCluskey, which is Jeremy Rayner's character, tries to be the mediator between them, the police and city council and all that stuff. And you know he has to do some underhanded stuff and some above-the-table stuff. It's interesting to see how they navigate all that. And then the last bit of news. I guess in review it's the final shape, for Destiny 2 has gotten a lot of really positive reviews.
51:14I've heard it's really really good yeah.
51:16Mitch:I mean.
51:16And everybody's just like sucks. This is the last one.
51:19Mitch:Yeah, I mean it's got a 9 out of 10 for its last DLC, but I'm interested to maybe try it out eventually. I don't have time, but you know we'll see.
51:33I mean I'm not going to get, with Elden Ring coming out with this huge DLC. I'm not playing Call of Duty, true, I'm going to be jumping into Elden Ring getting mad, spiking my controller off the couch repeatedly.
51:48Mitch:And then the last bit of news I have is we're going to I mean, we're still in the process of collaborating, but we're trying to be part of the Art is Alive Film Festival. It's possibly reviewers we're going to have a little commercial we're going to be making for it. So once we get a little more information from the producer and, I guess, the showrunner of the festival, we're going to have a little more information for you. But if you're paying attention, listening, as you're still listening check out the Art is Alive Film Festival. You can find it online. Look more into it. If you have content you want to submit to it, or if you just want to be interested in seeing what kind of short films and
52:31Mitch:films are made out there, make sure you check it out.
52:36Do that. I think Hayden sent us a promo.
52:39Mitch:Yeah, he wants us to make a promo. He wants us to make a promo. You want me to read it because it's short.
52:44It's not like you know his mild autobiography. Yeah, you can read it From the last time. Promo from Hayden Ahem, ahem. What. What kind of entertainment nerd are you? Do you like movies more than your friends? Do you binge TV shows as fast as possible while internet stalking the actors Are video games a forever chase of that sweet nostalgia from yesteryear. Well, whatever your answer is, we agree. Entertain this, a podcast about movies, tv shows and video games. Mitch and Tom don't often agree on much, but when they make he wrote that horrible and I was rolling on that.
53:28Mitch:Yeah, you were. I was going to use that. I know I was going to cut it out and use it.
53:31Damn it. We could do a re-recording of that.
53:34Mitch:Okay.
53:36And don't often agree on much, but they make great arguments you can bring to your friends. Find us on whatever you listen to on podcasts, and talk to us on any social media platforms. Just search. He's spelled out. Entertainers E-N-T-E-R-T-A-I-N-T-H-I-S exclamation point, not ellipses. Not ellipses. No, they're gone. They lost the fight. Yep. We're covering film festivals now.
54:05Mitch:They didn't have the stamina for this fight. We could go on forever. I didn't hear no bell.
54:11I'm sorry.
54:12Mitch:That was America. Yeah, I have to say, you know, stay tuned for that. Like I said, we're collaborating with them, hopefully, and trying to reach out a little more, get a little more entertainment for you.
54:26A little more, a little more entertainment for you 100 more years Morty 100 more seasons of this. It'll never stop, as long as.
54:36Mitch:Hayden's alive, but that's all I really have for this week.
54:39So unless Tom has anything else, Nope, no, made it through a whole episode without talking about that game.
54:47Mitch:Ready go? Welcome to the wardrobe. I haven't played in like a week , but thank you all for joining in and listening to us this week . Be sure to tune in next week. We'll see what we have. Might be an interview, if we uh can get this collaboration going, or it might just be another episode of nonsense, yep so have a good day, bye david, I was gonna use that.
55:14Like it really just Like how dare you Well?
55:22Mitch:I'll just cut that out.
55:25Not even saying anything to you.
