0:00Yeah. I guess you could say we're back. Did we go anywhere? Home, our respective?

0:11Mitch:houses. Oh yeah, I guess so Well, you were already here I went to the bathroom I had to pee. You went through a door.

0:27Hello and welcome to Entertain this. It's a podcast about movies, tv shows and video games. My name's Tom. With me I have Mitch and Grim Arbogans. He'll never not be funny. Welcome to our show. So before we get into this very special father's day episode, we want to go over our social media.

0:48Mitch:Mitch well you can go to entertain this podcastcom, which will take you to our facebook group and page. You can go to our x, which is at this, entertain our instagram , which is entertainedthis, and our youtube and tiktok, which entertain this exclamation point those places and I did it flawlessly that was was good.

1:03I'm impressed. Look at you go Normally. You're like, well, you can go to Nope it's, and you just flubber at the mouth.

1:15Mitch:It's early, it's not late like normal.

1:16Yeah, we're not like you know, exhausted. You know this is a 12 o'clock in the afternoon on a Saturday.

1:21Mitch:Yeah, we're doing this episode as opposed to 12 o'clock at night.

1:25But, yeah, this is going to be our Father's Day special, yes, which you know, you might be a father, you might know a father.

1:32Mitch:All to our papas.

1:33All to our papas, dear papa. And then later we'll be discussing the lands between oh yeah, hayden's blood pressure just went up 10 points. Oh yeah, hayden's blood pressure just went up 10 points. But we actually heard from Hayden. Yeah. Our foreign correspondent.

1:49Mitch:Correspondent. He responded.

1:50He wrote let's see one, two, three, four, five, six , seven, eight, nine ten A lot.

1:54Mitch:He wrote a novel.

1:56A bunch of paragraphs about a review, so let's see what Hayden wrote. Welcome to Hayden's Corner.

2:10Mitch:It's a good way to start it.

2:13Hello, entertain this . Sorry listeners that it's been so long since you've heard from me, but I have been a little busy. In my spare time I've been watching some movies and TV. You should understand that the internet in the Middle East makes Mitch's tin can service seem like a Google server farm.

2:27Mitch:He hasn't been here since I got fiber optics. He doesn't know.

2:30You're in the 22nd century, you're over here in the future. Sometimes it takes me days to watch a movie. I actually downloaded Baldur's Gate 3 in roughly three and a half weeks, but sometimes the bandwidth isn't too bad and I managed to watch a double feature today. Godzilla x kong any name that has an inexplicable x in the title should be a precursor. I understand you can't say godzilla and kong, all capitals. It made them sound like quirky roommates. But maybe a little more creativity than just names separated by a letter. By the way, godzilla triple x kong would be a different movie altogether.

3:17Mitch:Yeah, it's not a movie I want to see no, I don't want to see that movie.

3:21Also, why does king kong not get a full name in the title? It's? It's bad enough that Zilla has God in front of it, but we can't be bothered to pay notoriety to it. Humbler Monarch, oh Hayden. Okay, I'll actually talk about this movie now. It sucked. That was it, that's all I wrote . The thing that I hate most about this dumb, lifeless plot hole of a movie was the fact that it made so much effing money.

3:51Mitch:He tried to catch you .

3:52I could tell in the first ten minutes that this movie was dumb. No, I didn't watch the show. I saw Godzilla V Kong once and hated that too. But I can tell you that all the MacGuffins and all the nameless signs people were annoyingly a distraction from the giant monster fights. All the weird plots the people came up with were dumb and pointless enough that I didn't need to worry about backstory all that much. The movie starts off with Godzilla responding to a monster I already forgot about, but Wikipedia calls it Scylla. They fight in Rome. Rome is where Godzilla apparently calls home, curled up , all cute, like when he gets sweeping in the Colosseum. Godzilla wouldn't fit in the Colosseum, he's too big.

4:39I wonder how Italy feels about this. I wonder what they could do about it. The only problem with this picture is don't you think Godzilla should call Japan home? He legit, illegally immigrated into Italy and is squatting on a world wonder. There's a small throwaway line where the monarch people who I don't know what they do watch the monsters. They can't do anything else. Anyway, they explain over the phone that they should be grateful Godzilla was there or all of Rome would be flattened. I watched that fight. I don't know if I could be grateful. Imagine a naked, homeless man breaking into your house destroying all your stuff. Then the cops come in and throws him through walls, beats him to death on your front and turn, blows a hole through a

5:25wall to exit, leaving a corpse in your living room. I'd like to speak to a supervisor. I'm also old enough where I see the monsters destroy thousands of year old architecture, and well, it doesn't bring me joy. Statue of Liberty, meh. But whenong tries to recruit godzilla to join the expendables or monster squad, they have to fight and destroy the great pyramids because reasons. If you're going to have a movie where cool looking monsters fight, then write the reasons for their fight in the dumbest way possible. Why even bother? Why not just have a 90 minute no dialogue movie where two giant animals beat the crap out of each other all over the world inexplicably, like Russell Crowe's fighting around the

6:11world? There's a pretty lady. She's like a boss in Monarch, but also the adopted mother to the last little girl from a race of people who could control the monsters Convenient. I don't think they actually control them, though Worship them. I don't know. They needed a plot filler for the next dumb part that I'll get into Kong, is sad and lonely in the center of the Earth, but they can't call it that, probably because it's copyrighted, so they call it Hollow Earth. Earthquake happens and Kong goes into a fissure inside and discovers a subterranean world. Into a fissure inside, discovers a subterranean world. Whoa, I feel like they shot. They shot their shot with prehistoric biomes hidden underground in the last movie, but no they're going.

6:53Inception with this one, kong discovers fellow kongs and beats them to death. With an infant kong, yeah, I was surprised. To be fair, they tried to make friends with him at first, but they attacked him. The baby Kong is okay because plot armor, after recovering from shaken baby syndrome, he thinks Kong is cool and takes him to meet his mom Wink wink. Actually, now that I mention it , they go into a lot of detail to make these monsters realistic , kind of the 2020 shtick. But all the monkeys are Ken dolls. Not that I want to see a giant ape peeing, flailing around, but we're going to pretend that it's not there. I digress. We meet the mom who gets yeeted into lava six frames after she's introduced.

7:40No girl monsters allowed. The bad monster because we have morality in the monsters now. It kills her and controls a lizard ice dragon with a shiny crystal. No explanation on how this works. If you want one, you should watch the other Godzilla movies. Kong is mad because he needs audience approval and gets his butt kicked. My God, reading a novel. Let me interrupt this monster plot story to tell you what people are doing. See, you don't care. You want to know what's going on with the monsters. Well, that sucks. We have to watch regular people do sci-fi stuff and try to make a dentist look cool. Five people get on a ship to fly to Kongland. One of them is a real jerk. Hayden's really trying to get me , yeah who wears a nameless

8:28uniform and has no tolerance for everyone's scientific quirks, who do you think is going to die ? He was dead 10 minutes after they landed. At first I thought they needed to kill him because they needed a plot device stranding the main characters there. But no, super cool dentist can fly. You want to know why the dentist is there Me too. Even better, why'd they let a podcaster talk them into taking him? If we ran a podcast in this world, we'd be dead before finishing our first year. Tom would totally be the first to die.

9:01Mitch:Thank you, Hayden. At least you didn't say I'd run away.

9:04No, that's the next line and Mitch would run away. Also, why is podcasting MacGuffins and everything? Now I've seen like six movies and shows that do that. Maybe they'll make a movie about our podcast. Godzilla's eating nuclear stuff because he watched too many Logan Paul videos and is getting swole to prep for the fight. That's like the first 70 minutes of the movie. Godzilla is really in the background a lot of this movie, but he turns purple anyway. The girl, the chosen one. She summons Mothra. I don't know how or why, but Mothra does. Didn't that bug die? I forgot, but the movie made it seem like a big deal. Kong flees to recruit Godzilla, but Godzilla wants to kill Kong because he's beta.

9:43Mothra shows up and the three of them look at each other and give bro nods. Blah, blah, blah. They go and kill bizarro Kong. In the last 20 minutes fights took place between Egypt, the center of the earth and Rio de Janeiro. This was a mess of a movie with a 45 page script. They smeared in the 90 minutes. The budget was 150 million and it made570 million. I hate that. You dumb people are why we keep having idiot presidents. Cg was good, two out of ten, godzilla minus one, which you reviewed. This is Hayden's review of Godzilla.

10:18Mitch:I told him I already reviewed that he goes. I don't care.

10:22He already probably wrote Godzilla minus one. I hadn't written his review. He's like it's't care, I don't care. He already probably wrote Godzilla, I just wonder how he had written his review. And he's like it's too late, I can't go back. A kamikaze pilot on the last few days of World War II abandons his sortie in fear of death and lands on a small Pacific island. You see that, you see how, in one sentence, the people are already way more interesting. The pilot is confronted about being a coward when Godzilla shows up. This is a prequel to the Shin Godzilla, if I understand that right that Toho rebooted, which yes. So when you see him, he looks more like a T-Rex than the hulking beast of inflated trash bags you know from yesteryear

10:56and is merely a local legend as the movie starts, godzilla acts like a monster in this movie, killing people because they're there, although he doesn't eat them, he just sort of flings them around. Anyway, the pilot has a chance to shoot Godzilla in the face with 20 millimeter cannons, but chicken's out. The pilot goes home to a decimated post-war village where his parents are dead and people shun him as he's a surviving kamikaze.

11:18Mitch:Yeah, that's kind of.

11:20A woman with an abandoned baby convincing to let them stay with him, and he inherits a makeshift family. Godzilla gets nuked from American tests in the Pacific and mutates. I got to hand it to Japan. They tried hard not to make the US feel too much like the bad guys in this, but we nuked them twice. Godzilla is a metaphor based on this. I think we could take it. But they also wanted a piece of that sweet domestic box office. They essentially just say that the US can't help with Godzilla because of Russia. Yeah, F you Russia. The pilot takes a job to support his new family by clearing mines left in the Pacific by America and Japan. Godzilla shows up and looks awesome. Better than the American version.

12:05Loved how they made him. He does have Wolverine-level healing, though. Don't remember that from the old days, but it is a reboot. The way they animated him is really cool. They pay homage to the paced walk the older versions do, but replace the autistic screeching roar with a more monstrous one. That's a bold line, hayden. Japan isn't allowed to take military action, so all these ex-Navy people acquire boats and come up with their classic Toho science plan, complete with charts, models and over-the-top explanation of how different science-y stuff works. They essentially want to sink Godzilla and let the pressure of water crush him at 150 meters down. Excuse me, sounds realistic, right? Almost like if you were to travel to the center of the

12:55Earth. The pressure would kill you. Kamikaze Pite loses his new girlfriend in a Godzilla attack, so now he wants to kill himself by flying his plane into Godzilla's mouth and would abandon his new daughter. Perhaps the real plot of the movie isn't about a giant monster and people surviving it, but really the inner reflection Japan has with itself and how it's traditionally valued life. They even go so far as to mention that their eagerness to rush to death is the reason they lost the war. Suicide still plagues Japan to this day, and to see a legitimate problem being addressed within a cultural mainstay is refreshing way to go . Japan, say more funny stuff, hayden. I'll leave the ending of the movie a mystery to encourage

13:36listeners to watch. It's really good Both visual effect at the American film. At only a $20 million budget it made 150 million total. So at least least you know by profits gained. This movie made almost six times its budget, whereas fast x I mean zilla x kong made only four times. That this is was also the best toho performing godzilla movie in history. Was this a toho movie? Okay, don't get me wrong. If you aren't used to Japanese movies, it still comes off goofy sometimes, but the excited, rambling, screaming head bows over the top reactions to trauma . But western audiences are engineered to be quieter and less animated than eastern. It's definitely a foreign film, but one that everyone should

14:17watch. A country truly putting itself out there and showing the world that they're trying to be better . In the end I give it an 8 out of 10. Reason being was the ending was a're trying to be better. In the end I give it an 8 out of 10. Reason being was the ending was a little off to me. Perhaps I had watched the older Godzilla movies in the Shin universe Some things would make sense, but I'm not so sure. They also kind of dragged mysteries on a little too long when you could predict what they were planning a mile away. Still awesome. If you like the old Toho films, watch this. I hope the American franchise takes a page out of Japan's book . Okay, well, I'm sure Mitch and Tom are suffering to make

14:51quality work without me. We're not. But a few more months, dear listeners, and I will return to save the day. Thanks for sticking with us and I'm looking forward to never taking air conditioning and Internet for granted again.

15:07Mitch:Hayden PS. I love you.

15:11I miss you guys. We've been doing good, making quality content. Yeah, yeah. We've made it to June, the middle of June.

15:19Mitch:Exactly. I mean, I've done a lot of planning. Tom showed up, so we're doing good, we're doing great.

15:27Why mess up a winning formula?

15:29Mitch:Exactly, I do stuff. We've gotten probably four times as many downloads this year as we normally do, and who's not here and why the numbers go up?

15:41Hayden.

15:41Mitch:I mean there's some other factors that we're not going to mention, but the main factor is he's not here. We're doing better.

15:47I'm just saying, if he comes back and we tank, this is what you hate. You got to go back to the Middle East.

15:53Mitch:But celebrating Father's Day, Now that we're done with that, that long paragraph.

15:59Yeah, thank you for suffering through that if you're still with us. We'll go to our dad's top ten.

16:05Mitch:Now I told my dad top ten favorite movies and TV shows together.

16:11I just told him movies.

16:12Mitch:Well, my dad, he included two TV shows.

16:16My dad has a top five of honorable mention.

16:19Mitch:Okay, let's do his honorable mentions first.

16:22These are John's honorable mentions. Guys and Dolls. What's that Musical With Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra. Okay. It's not like a musical. Like Mommy, we're there Singing Every Five Minutes.

16:37Mitch:Or La La Land, or something yeah.

16:39There's plot, there's stuff happening.

16:40Mitch:Understandable.

16:41The Seven Ups, which is a 1973 cop movie with Roy Scheider, never heard of it Great movie. Good car chase Cops and Robbers . I don't know about that one. Okay. He likes that movie, the Hot Rock, which is Robert Redford, not Harvey Keitel, I can't remember the guy's name, but they're diamond thieves, okay, and they basically they steal a diamond, they get double-crossed and it's just like. It's kind of like shenanigans almost, but it's not a bad movie . And then the Sting, also featuring Robert Redford and Paul Newman and Robert Shaw.

17:20Mitch:None of those were on my dad's list, okay.

17:23So we'll start with your dad.

17:26Mitch:Let's just press this real quick.

17:27How old is your dad? My dad is 62.

17:33Mitch:Okay, your dad's about seven years older than my dad. My dad's 56. Oh, is he.

17:41Yeah, I think my dad's actually 63. No, so they have a little bit different taste in movies. Oh is he? Yeah, I think my dad's actually 63.

17:46Mitch:No, yeah, so they have a little bit different taste in movies, Mm-hmm. But we have our top 10, you know their top 10 favorites and I'll start with mine. My dad's top number 10 is Yellowstone.

17:58The show.

17:58Mitch:Have you seen any of it yet?

18:00Kevin Costner and I always got to talk like this. It's a really good show.

18:03Mitch:Cattle. Take them to the train station. Yeah pretty much, but I mean it's a really good show where you know the family's defending their land over the years.

18:14I know the ladies go wild for this guy called Rip.

18:16Mitch:Yeah, he's a cool guy , he's also a killer, like a cold-blooded killer. And Beth, yeah, she's alright, but yeah, rip, just like he'll flat out just kill people, like hang them in the woods and stuff like that.

18:33Hey, rip ain't got time for these, you know problems.

18:38Mitch:But yeah, it's a show where they're basically, you know, defending their thousands of acres of land and basically, you know, defended their thousands of acres of land. Yeah Was it Montana?

18:47Yeah. Doesn't he become governor of Montana? Yeah, kevin Costner yeah, because I always see the clip where he like walks by and it's like oh that's your like his cabinet or something, talking, you know, doing policy stuff, and he's just like I think it's season four that he becomes governor and he just comes in and he fires all of them.

19:03Mitch:He starts off the show as livestock commissioner and then his son's either district attorney or trying to become district attorney or something like that. It's a good show. It's a lot of heartfelt moments Because he has a bunch of sons and one daughter and they have a very estranged family.

19:23And the son he likes the most is Rip, who's not actually his son.

19:26Mitch:Right, exactly he does. Well, I mean, everybody knows he becomes his son-in-law eventually. It's a good one. And his youngest son, jamie, he's a good guy. He ends up marrying somebody that's from the reservation and they don't get along with him because they feel like, well, him and his wife get along. But they don't get along necessarily with Kevin Costner for most of the show because you know they feel like he stole the land. His family stole the land from the Native Americans to begin with and his son is like a war vet. That's pretty capable.

20:05Yeah, he's a SEAL, right, or he was a SEAL.

20:07Mitch:As far as I know, they don't specify. He did a lot of special missions.

20:14He was doing stuff.

20:15Mitch:Yeah, and things. Because there's one season where they're fighting these two quote-unquote brothers that show up with all their people and stuff and he comes out of the woods in like a ghillie suit and a sniper rifle.

20:29It's like, yeah, he just knows how to do that stuff, so let it go, let it go.

20:33Mitch:I mean, he's a good shot. It's all sorts of stuff. You know, the thing goes all over the place. The show's good with drama it it's good with comedy, it's good with the action. It's a fun show to watch, if you like anything in that grain. It's a show that I had no interest in watching, and then I was stuck at home for a while. So I started watching it and I think I watched everything that was available at the time.

20:54All the yellow stuff In like the two weeks. Next thing you know you want a cowboy. Hat you got boots.

21:00Mitch:I did. Give me a cowboy hat. Give me a cowboy hat. Talk like this, talk like this. What's your number 10?

21:07El Dorado El.

21:09Mitch:Dorado, that's the one we reviewed right.

21:11I think you watched it, the original With John Wayne , yeah, yeah.

21:14Mitch:John Wayne, james Caan.

21:15Robert Mitchum, my dad's top 10. We watch that movie all the time, okay.

21:25Mitch:It's one of the most fun watching Westerns. Yeah Well, give our audience a little bit of a review of that, real quick, just a synopsis?

21:31Yeah, a brief if you would. So John Wayne obviously is the good guy. Actually, they're all pretty much good guys. John Wayne plays. He's pretty much one of the top four fastest guys or gunfighters in the West at this town called El Dorado, and then he's well-known everywhere. He's a hired gun. Robert Mitchum is like one of those speed demon drawing guys and he's the sheriff.

21:57Mitch:But Robert Mitchum is the one that draws knives, doesn't he?

22:00No, that's James Caan , oh that's right.

22:02Mitch:James Caan, that's right, I forgot.

22:03You know Cole Thornton is his character and he takes a job and then he finds out he has to go against Robert Mitchum and he doesn't want to do it. So he leaves and he goes and does some other stuff and he comes back and he finds out Robert Mitchum had like a girl who ran off on him and he basically just became alcoholism and that's not his way back. He meets mississippi, which is james khan, who's better with knives than he is with a gun, and it's still like the worst gun teaching moment where john wayne, you know he's like this is how you shoot, bang. And he just like draws fires, hits whatever it was he wanted to hit uh hant the mississippi and he's like you know, he cocks it back and he's aiming all slow.

22:38John wayne's like. No, he's like you gotta be quick bound, you know. And he's like you got to be fast and the other guy trying to do the same thing and he takes it, shoots wild misses and John Wayne just takes the gun and goes. Well, it's hopeless. It's like he gets a sawed-off double barrel shotgun.

22:55Mitch:Stay with that wall.

22:57Just be in the general direction and you'll be fine. So they have to go back and then the rancher people that they're going to go to war with you know, their shenanigans start and then, like John Wayne was having issues because he gets shot in the back by one of the other family's, like kids, because he killed their son, because he shot at John Wayne first, yeah, and like he's like he just pops up, bang and John Wayne's like on his horse, he just goes and just, you know, kos him. So you know he's having, like you know, paralysis issues in his hands and then they have, you know big old, you know gunfight all through town and everyone made it and it was all happily ever after. Okay.

23:35Mitch:Well, number nine on my dad's list is Game of Thrones . He loves that show. Even the bad ending, he loved that show. He likes House of Dragons.

23:45House of Dragons. That comes back this month. I think it comes out tomorrow it will be the first episode.

23:50Mitch:again, I say tomorrow . It will be the first episode out now when people hear this when you listen to this.

23:56it's already happened when we record. We're not there yet. We'll watch it. Then We'll get back to you on it.

24:02Mitch:He's loved Game of Thrones ever since he saw it. It's a fun show. I mean. I agree the last season is not that great.

24:09The last like two, three seasons weren't that great .

24:11Mitch:Everybody's like oh, the last fight with the army of the dead. They're like oh, it's too dark. I never had a problem with it being too dark. I don't know what everybody else.

24:20It was. You couldn't see anything.

24:22Mitch:I could see everything.

24:23And then you watch Helms Deep. It's like you could see everything, and they're fighting at night.

24:26Mitch:I could see just fine when I watched. I don't know.

24:29I enjoyed it. Well, yeah, you're probably wearing night vision.

24:32Mitch:I didn't exactly like the way things went, but I did like all the production value and what happened. Anyways, what's number nine for your dad?

24:41The Longest Day, the.

24:43Mitch:Longest Day. That sounds familiar. What is that?

24:45Old war movie 1962. That's the one Huge ensemble cast, not what I was thinking in my mind. I mean John Wayne's in it, robert Mitchum's in it, henry Fonda, richard Todd, sean Connery, everybody. Okay, like anybody who was anybody in 1962 in the acting game Gotcha. So like the parachute landings and then the landings on the beach. Okay, I mean black and white still movie, which was funny because like when the movie came out in 1962, john Wayne was like 17 years older than the guy he was playing Like at the time . Yeah, like you know, because everybody you know that was like everybody thought like World War II was fought by. Like you know, cause everybody you know that was like everybody thought like World War II was fought by like 30 and 40 year

25:36old guys not like 18 to 25. Like you got guys who were captains running entire platoons or something, and then like 22.

25:45Mitch:That's what I mean. A lot of people don't realize that a lot of the military is 20 to 30 at most, 20 to 30 at most , which you know. I mean. You know, depending on who it is, they're a little more mature . But yeah, I mean most of the military, other than like the high, high up people it's 20 to 30 year olds. Yeah, at most so. But number eight for my dad is Legends of the Fall, which I've never actually seen. This movie, no, I've never seen this movie. Yeah, I know it has Anthony Hopkins, brad Pitt and there's something else, but I want to say it's like after the Civil War or during the Civil War, but it's kind of a war slash love story. I want to say that some of them have to go off to war and then

26:29Mitch:they're either wife or girlfriend. I've never actually seen the movie. I've wanted to because everything I've seen says that it's one of the best period piece movies ever, because Anthony Hopkins plays Brad Pitt and then there's another actor.

26:44Anthony Hopkins plays Brad Pitt.

26:46Mitch:Well, he plays Brad Pitt's dad, sorry.

26:47Okay, Anthony Hopkins pretending to be Brad Pitt in a classic movie Like what?

26:52Mitch:But I mean, supposedly it's really good. I just never have had a chance to sit down and watch it. I'd really like to, but Well, sure does. That's the Raid Raiders of the Lost Ark.

27:05Which one's that? That's the very first one. The very first one, okay, the good one. Because when we were sitting there I asked him for his top ten and he's like going. He's like, oh yeah, temple of Doom and I was like Temple of Doom and he goes yeah, with the Germans. He's like not the one with Sean Connery and I'm like Raiders of the Lost Ark, he goes, that's it. He's like that movie. He's like not Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. He's like that was one of the coolest, best movies I ever got to see in theaters. He's like everybody loved it. We were all like, oh my God, this is an awesome movie. And then I love. The basic fact of everything Indiana Jones does in this movie means nothing.

27:47Yeah, he could have done nothing , he could have left the Nazis to their own devices, they still would have got the Ark of the Covenant, they still would have took it to the island, they still would have opened it and had the audacity to talk to God directly, and they all would have died. Nothing else would have happened. But in this way the US government takes possession of the Ark.

28:10Mitch:Well, number seven on my dad's list is a little bit of cheating. He likes John Wick. 1 through 3. I didn't want to put John Wick as 3.

28:17He didn't like 4? .

28:18Mitch:No, he said he didn't like 4 as much as he did the other 3.

28:21I just recently rewatched 2 and 3. And you know what? These movies I don't think get enough credit for world building .

28:31Mitch:Yeah.

28:33I mean everybody credit. You know the action, the gunplay. Everybody's like, oh, kung Fu. And you know stuff that John Wick does and like his ability to shoot and move at the same time and you know accuracy very impressive. But the world building that they do in these movies of like what even is society, and like the coins and these people and like this hierarchy and it's like, oh, there's the high table , but you got like the concierges and all the continentals and then you got like all these other, like inquisitors and the elder.

29:03Mitch:Yeah, I mean, it's pretty interesting how detailed they end up making this franchise as opposed to just assassins that live in the world . Yeah, it. Assassins that live in the world.

29:11Yeah, it's pretty good and I enjoy watching it when he makes where Winston excommunicados, john Wick, yeah, and he's just like he looks at a guy and nods and the guy just goes now and everyone there stops and just looks at him like and I'm like, how many people are assassins. I don't get it how many of you In this world, everyone but us.

29:34Mitch:It's like, oh my God, you didn't realize that everyone in your third-floor apartment is all obsessed and I mean and Holly Berry.

29:45Yeah, yeah, yeah, moving around kicking butt and the dogs. I mean, it still breaks my heart watching the Puppy. Oh yeah, From the first one, yeah, the first movie yeah, that movie is what sold girls on John Wick. Because that dude went nuts and eliminated the Russian mob in New York because they killed his dog. All because of a dog and all the girls are like Gallop rip his face off and shove it, killed his dog, all because of a dog. And all the girls are like Gallop Rip his face off and shove it up his butt.

30:17Mitch:Alright, so what's your dad's number? Seven?

30:19Star Wars. The first one 1977, or you know , episode four, and he's like it's not A New Hope, it's not episode four. When it came out it was just Star Wars, that was it. He's like nobody ever seen special effects like that the Death Star, the X-Wings, the flying the lightsabers, Darth Vader. He's like none of that, we didn't have any of that. He's like you had Star Trek and nobody cared.

30:41Mitch:Yeah.

30:42He's like you know. He's like you know, got goofy green dudes in latex throwing foam boulders at each other. My dad does not like Star Trek. He liked the new one. Yeah, take that hate. He liked the new ones with Chris Pine.

30:56Mitch:Yeah.

30:56He thought those were good. Okay. But the original Star Wars, he was instantly sold on. That was one of the best things he's ever seen.

31:05Mitch:Number six on my papa's list is 13 Hours the story of Benghazi with John Krasinski.

31:12Yeah, and the fact that Hillary Clinton's not in prison still boggles my mind.

31:15Mitch:True, but you'll notice, as the rest of this list goes on, it's more just action, action, action. Your dad likes the action he likes to see stuff blow up.

31:25Hey, Star Wars, you got the Death Star blowing up. He blew up a moon.

31:31Mitch:But yeah, he loves the 13 hours. He's more like the America like we will get to in another episode but he loves all the war movies and soldiers and all that kind of stuff. He loves everything like that. 13 hours was the war.

31:47Your dad's a Republican. Oh yeah, it's like Shang-Chi said, the more you get into good action movies in World War II the more you're going to like.

32:00Mitch:It's only a matter of time before you're a republican . Like any, like any old uh man, he will sit down.

32:03He'll just watch world war ii documentaries I watch them too yeah, let's see I mean you've seen around here, you've seen like books about you got books about nazis it's the entire. It's the rise and fall of the Third Reich by William Shire.

32:13Mitch:I know.

32:14That's like the preeminent You've told me. I know it's thicker than the Bible.

32:20Mitch:But he loves watching this movie, so he had to put that on the list.

32:23Hey, sounds like a good entry.

32:25Mitch:What's your dad's number six?

32:27Jaws.

32:27Mitch:Jaws. Why Jaws?

32:29It's a great movie.

32:30Mitch:Well, I mean, it's not I mean why?

32:32Jaws Ask him.

32:34Mitch:I'm just saying, your dad's list is very variant, you know there's a lot of things he liked. I see that.

32:40But Jaws is like one of the best movies ever made.

32:42Mitch:My dad's got a one-track mind For the most part . Well, he likes shooting stuff.

32:47You're about to. Conglomeration of like action, cool stuff, adventure police.

32:57Mitch:Moving on, my dad's number five is End of Watch. I have seen that he loves that movie. He loves the comedy because, let's be honest- that's how it is. You gotta laugh at the bad stuff along with the good.

33:14So you don go insane and you know everyone's stabbing each other in the locker room.

33:17Mitch:Like when the officer gets stabbed in the eye, he's like dude. Did you see that? He was like get sued, you know.

33:23And Eric's, just like bruh, it's like he was.

33:26Mitch:He turned in his badge man and the guy that's been stabbed in the eye, he's like they cut my vest off. That's all he was worried about . But yeah, I mean it's a good movie. It's about two cops that kind of get in over their heads.

33:41With the cartels.

33:43Mitch:Yeah, in LA they're trying to do the right thing and be proactive cops and they get in over their heads with, like Tom said, the cartel and it kind of comes back to bite them.

33:53It's one of them.

33:54Mitch:Well, it bit both of them.

33:56Yeah, they both got lit up.

33:58Mitch:One survives, yeah, but it's a good movie. I really enjoy watching it as well.

34:03I definitely recommend that one as well. All right.

34:05Mitch:What's your guess? Number five Goodfellas.

34:07Goodfellas, I can see that, go get your shine box.

34:12Mitch:Y'all be at Northerners. I could see that.

34:14Well, I mean like a lot of the stuff like filmed on location stuff. I mean my dad grew up in Brooklyn, yeah, like. I mean he doesn't talk about like the mafia or stuff, but he's like you know, yeah, he's like there were guys and there was like. He's like this was on the news, like when they pulled off the LaTanza heist in the late seventies. He's like it was the biggest cash robbery ever at the time on American soil, like he's like all of us knew it was. Like this is wild stuff. He's like this was just life, like he's like and it's just such a well done movie and everyone who acts in it does perfect. I mean, even Martin Scorsese's mom is in it and I think actually his dad, I think his dad's the one that clips.

35:04Tommy, if you haven't seen the movie, I've seen it. Yeah, you seen Goodfellas? Yeah, I want to put this disclaimer out where they're in prison and it's like they have like their own huge room, yeah, and they're getting lobster and he's slicing the garlic with a razor blade.

35:21Mitch:Yeah.

35:22And it's like oh, it would liquefy in the pan with just a little bit of oil. That's not true. Garlic will not lique. In case anybody ever watched it and wanted to try and do it, save yourself the trouble of slicing garlic with a razor blade. It's not going to liquefy, you're just going to have very, very thin garlic and it's going to burn very, very quickly. Keep that in mind. Those were Tom's top cooking tips.

35:45Mitch:Okay. Anyways, number four on my dad's list is Secondhand Lions. I love that movie.

35:56You know what? That's one of the best movies I think made probably last 20 years. 25 years. That just does not really get credit of like. Everyone saw that movie, but we all loved it. I don't know a single person who hated secondhand lions hayden would interject right now .

36:08Mitch:Stupid movie but my dad loves it for two reasons. One, because it's a hilarious movie.

36:14It is hilarious.

36:15Mitch:And two Robert Duvall's character reminds him a lot of his dad, Of my granddad. It just is his personality and stuff. He's just kind of like a take no nonsense kind of old man sitting on the porch.

36:29Where the sales people show up and they're like, hey, and they're holding pamphlets and it's just yeah. Where, like, the salespeople show up and they're like, hey, and they're holding pamphlets and it's just shooting them out of their hands. I like how the one guy pulls up and he's just like, wait, like he already knows. And Michael Haynes is like this one's been here before and he's like I got something I think you guys would actually think is cool and would want. And then it's like the pull thing and he's like you know shooting targets. And then it's like the pull thing and he's like you know shooting targets and they're like all right, you've done well , so you've learned, you're a clever man, you know your

36:59audience. And even at the end, like they crash into the barn upside down on the plane, yeah, and it's just like they're reading the will. It's just like the kid gets it all buries in the guard next to the stupid lion.

37:12Mitch:The kid had a lion, yeah, lived on the farm with him .

37:14And hid in the cornfield, yeah, and then effed that dude up.

37:18Mitch:Oh yeah, they kept him to steal or kill him.

37:21Yeah, his mom and her jerk boyfriend showed up to beat the crap out of the kids. To get the money.

37:26Mitch:Oh, that's right.

37:27That they knew that they had that. They were like, no, they don't have it, but there were signs that they were wealthy. You think I like how the dude's all bandaged up and Robert Duvall just grabs him by the nose and he's like get out of here.

37:40Mitch:All right, what was your dad's number four? American Graffiti I don't think I've ever seen that.

37:45George Lucas. This is before Star Wars. Okay. So this was like 1970-something . Let's see, ron Howard is in it, he's one of the leads, so is Richard Dreyfuss, so is Harrison Ford. Okay. Which is where you know. That's where he meets. That's where he first met Harrison Ford, because he didn't want to recast him for Star Wars. Yeah, he's like, I don't want to keep using the same people. Okay. But he had him come in and read Han Solo's lines and read and they were just like all right, yeah, you're going to be Han Solo. And then it's like you're going to be Indiana Jones. But it's just about some kids who just graduated, you know, high school in 1962, and like their night, you know, going through town, you know it's like the cruising era with the

38:31really nice cars, the muscle.

38:33Mitch:Yeah.

38:33You know, it's just kind of like you know great soundtrack.

38:39Mitch:Okay, my dad's number three is Tombstone.

38:41Great movie.

38:42Mitch:I like that movie and I think he watches it probably at least twice a year. But anything that has Kurt Russell, bill Paxton, val Kilmer and Sam Elliott all in their prime. You can't lose.

38:58No, you can't lose. And it's still a shame that Val Kilmer never won the Oscar for Best. Supporting Actor for that movie . That's the best Doc Holliday performance we've ever seen.

39:08Mitch:To me. Him and the white art performance is probably the best cowboy performances I've seen.

39:13And not a fake mustache on that show.

39:17Mitch:Exactly.

39:18Or on that movie they all had real mustaches. I mean, everyone knew Sam Elliott's was real, because that thing that thing lives there and has its own area code. Yeah, sam Elliott's mustache landed on Earth and just attacked some guy named Sam. Well, actually his real name then was like Steve.

39:36Mitch:Bob.

39:36And then it's just like you're Sam Elliott now and you drink Coors beer. It's the banquet beer. His mustache is really a filter . He has a high-pitched voice. Without it, it reverberates. It reverberates through the mustache and sounds cool. That's what happens.

39:53Mitch:All right, what's your dad's number three?

39:55Patton oh yeah, I've seen that one.

39:59Mitch:About the general from World War II.

40:01My dad told me my grandpa took him out of school one day and they went to go see Patton. When Patton came out, my dad's like this is 1970. He's like I'm eight and he's like, well, I'm watching Patton and he's saying bad words and I didn't know if Grandpa knew that those were bad words. It was kind of like, you know, it was a special moment for him in his life Because, like I have that with my dad, when we went and saw Lord of the Rings, like he came and broke me out of school, oh, okay, it was like a jailbreak so we can go see Lord of the Rings. So that was his. It was, you know, but in 1970, and it was Grandpa and my dad and they went to go see Patton, okay, played by George C Scott, who won the Oscar for that movie .

40:44Mitch:Okay, my dad's number two is Saving Private Ryan.

40:47I was wondering if that movie's going to be on there. I assumed it would be.

40:51Mitch:Yeah, it's definitely one of his favorites. He could watch that, like he could watch the whole movie and then let it play again, and he'd just let it play on repeat. He loves that. I mean, he, just like I said, he loves World War II and so any kind of movie that's even close to being, you know, a realistic vision.

41:07Depiction of I.

41:09Mitch:I mean because he likes Band of Brothers, he likes Pacific, he likes all those Seven. Private Ryan is definitely up there.

41:18It's his top favorite of all time.

41:19Mitch:It's a great movie.

41:20I'm not going to go into too much detail. These are movies we've talked about at length.

41:22Mitch:Yeah, what's your dad's number two?

41:24Fort Apache the Bronx Never heard of it Starring Paul Newman. Okay, what is that? Late 70s cop movie? And it's based on a book, because whatever the precinct was in, the Bronx was basically just surrounded on all sides. They called it Fort Apache, oh, okay, Because it was like you had to fight to get to it. You had to fight to get out. Okay. But it's like late 70s, bankrupt , decrepit, urban blight, new York, and there are cops like the old, like with the tunics, with the buttons going down both sides, oh really, oh yeah, In the 70s. Well, paul Newman, I mean, he's an old vet, so he still has it, okay. And then you know the leather jackets, you know the shields and you know nightsticks, revolvers the hats.

42:05It's just a little cold and dirty and it's just you know, cops and bad guys in the city.

42:17Mitch:Okay, well, I'll do my dad's. Number one is we Were Soldiers.

42:20I was like what could beat Saving Private Ryan? Sam Elliott, Mel Gibson?

42:25Mitch:Barry Pepper he likes the performance of Mel Gibson. As the general, he just loves that movie, even though performance of Mel Gibson as the general. As Colonel Hummel. Colonel, yeah, he just loves that movie and you know, even though the US didn't do well in Vietnam, he loves the fact that you know, in each battle they're pushing further and further, they get pushed back a little bit, they just keep on, keep on. He just he loves that movie, seeing how the soldiers would take care of each other and they're trained in and stuff like that.

42:55And then the greatness of Sam Elliott going. It's like Native American tribes, like they called every older woman in the tribe mother and every person grandfather. Yeah, and then Sam. Elliott's standing there with all the officers and he's a sergeant major, so he don't take no crap from officers either, and he just anyone who calls me grandpa, I'll kill you and they're all like oh.

43:17Mitch:And then the other one's like good day, sir. Kind of Kind of God damn. Baby.

43:26Beautiful day, sergeant Major. What are you? A weatherman? The hardest line in that whole movie is where, like Barry Pepper's, like a, a combat photographer.

43:36Mitch:Yeah.

43:36Or he's a journalist and Sam Elliott hands him an M16 and like a bunch of magazines and he's like I'm a noncombatant , he goes there ain't no such thing today, yeah exactly. And like they're about to get overrun and they're shooting and you just hear like Sam Elliott just slams a mag into his .45, and he's like prepare to defend yourselves, and he's just standing up. Yeah, with a pistol. With a .45 because he didn't want a plastic piece of crap. Apparently, that's what he told him, because he was like can I take my M1? They're like no, and he's like all right, I'll take the .45 and more ammo. And he's like you know what, m16? .

44:16Mitch:He goes. It's plastic steel and he's just standing there capping vc with a 45 america. I do like the one scene uh, I forgot which actor it is but when they're all laying down in the dark on the ground and the vietcong are creeping, creeping through and then the light goes up over the sky and they just stand up and start fighting like hand to hand, that's pretty cool vietnam, that's all the country that was my dad's number one. So what? Uh, what was your dad's number one? So what was your dad's number one? You already know, I don't the Godfather, oh Godfather.

44:40Not part two. I just don't like that movie. Not three Godfather 1. Understandable, which is not even Godfather 1. It was just the Godfather. Yeah, that movie's so great, I just never liked them. Not enough action, I just sit bored.

44:57Mitch:Yeah, man well, screw you.

44:58Mitch, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, go be sorry somewhere else. I'm sorry. Godfather's, one of the greatest movies ever made. I mean, come on, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Marlon Brando, al Pacino, james Caan, robert Duvall, I mean Abe Vico as Tessio. I mean just like a great, great movie and probably the best. You know, everybody wants to say like Goodfellas or Casino or like you know, for like American crime films. It's like no, the Godfather is by far, because this was like the peak of organized crime.

45:32Mitch:Yeah.

45:32Like these dudes owned the cops, owned judges, owned government, they could do whatever they wanted and it was just phone calls. It's like, oh, you don't want to put him in a movie, cool. And the guy wakes up and his horse's head is in there with him, the Godfather. But that's my dad's number one.

45:51Mitch:Okay, so that's our top ten dad's favorites, because we asked them. Both of us asked our dads what's their favorite stuff. Just have a little tribute to them for Father's Day coming up, a tribute to a dad. But now we'll kind of transition, do more of some news and then I have something special for Tom. Uh-oh, but a little bit of news the Daryl Dixon show with the Walking Dead spinoff, which he's getting his own. Well, he already had one season of it, did he? It was six or seven episodes.

46:20What was the name of his show? Daryl.

46:22Mitch:It's called Daryl Dixon the book. Yeah, it's called Daryl Dixon. The second season is called Daryl Dixon the Book of Carol because she's going to join him. But actually this show's really good, like it's better than the last few seasons of the Walking Dead.

46:36Because how many seasons of Walking Dead is it?

46:38Mitch:There was 11. Yes, yes, and it got very tiresome towards the end, but this show's a lot. Tiresome towards the middle. This show is a lot better because, while they have to do some explaining for him to have gotten to Europe, it does a good job of isolating him to where he's got to meet all these new people. He's got to learn who's the good guys, who's the bad guys. In Europe there's not as many guns just readily available, so they've made do with other weapons. They have to do more hand-to-hand kind of stuff. There's a whole new bad guy. That's the driving force and he meets this girl that originally was not you know. She was like a drug addict, partier kind of person. After the apocalypse she became basically a nun.

47:22Mitch:She lives in a monastery with what used to be a bunch of nuns, but it does a good job of showing her view from day one. They do a lot of flashbacks to the day that everything started happening, which is kind of cool because you don't see that a whole lot.

47:39No, rick is doing stuff. He gets shot and then he wakes up in the hospital and the apocalypse already happened.

47:43Mitch:Right. So this one's pretty interesting to see day one happening. And now in this season, carol, at the end of the first season, daryl's trying to get some transmissions through on a radio and he can't get anything until the last little transmission you hear. You hear Carol on the radio. Go, daryl, is that you? And that's how the season one ended. But he's still in. Europe. So that's coming out on 9-29, which is September 29th of this year. Let's see On Netflix, you know, the Hotel Transylvania movies.

48:18Yeah.

48:18Mitch:Adam Sandler's like a monster movie animated. My little girl loves them. Well, they're coming out with a Netflix TV series of Motel Transylvania where Mavis, his daughter, starts her own motel, so my little girl loves seeing that. Let's see what else we got. I have a bunch of stuff here that's not necessarily movie related. Oh, here's another one. There's an HBO Max or Max, what it's called now is actually going to make a documentary on the life of Jason David Frank. It'll be produced by Discovery. So that's interesting. Like an actual production company is going to make it Good . I'd like to see that. Unfortunately, Power Rangers has been canceled by Netflix, so they're not going to be making anything new through Netflix.

49:08Mitch:So Hasbro is looking for another partner to develop something.

49:13Take over.

49:14Mitch:Power Rangers, which just means it's going to be a little longer before we have anything. Lame. And then later this month there's a movie called the Bike Riders which is coming out, which I guess is supposed to be like what the Hells Angels were originally before they became the Hells Angels, before they went motorized.

49:33Bicycles.

49:33Mitch:It's got a what's the guy that played the most recent like Elvis? Oh, something Butler. Yeah, I know what you're talking about, but he's in it. Daryl Dixon, what's his name?

49:49Norman Reedus.

49:49Mitch:Norman Reedus is going to be in it, tom Hardy is going to be in it. Tom Hardy is going to be in it and there's one other big actor, but I can't remember his name, tom Hardy, huh. But basically it's going to be like these people start off a motorcycle club and how it devolves from being just these guys that like to go out and ride to how it becomes being like a gang. And also you have the Exorcism will release later this month with I guess it's a reboot or a remake, but a star Russell Crowe this is a troubled actor begins to exhibit a disruptive behavior while shooting a horror film, and then there's more to it. But we'll see how that goes. And then there's going to be a Kevin Costner making another

50:28Mitch:western. Well, I'll say western, another period piece, movie or show called Horizon American Saga, where it chronicles a multifaceted 15-year span of pre and post-Civil War, expansion and settlement of the American West. So this is not related to Yellowstone or anything like that, it's just another period piece with, you know, Kevin Costner.

50:52Good old Kevin. So do you have any news? Uh? I watched some stuff you did okay, so uh, season two of dr death. I didn't know that even happened I didn't either no uh, because I was. Me and uh rachel were looking for something to watch and I was like oh, dr death. I was like there's a second season. So I'd already seen season one and season one's probably a little bit better than season two, but season two's getting really good. Yeah. So we're only four episodes in out of eight. And it's not this, doesn't? It takes place in America, but also takes place in other countries, where you have this Italian doctor who has basically falsified a whole bunch of bogus research stuff, where he basically they design like these biosynthetic, like trachs for

51:44throat transplants and like esophaguses and like you know, oh, it's like with, you know, the person's own stem cells. It'll generate onto it and function as an organ.

51:54Mitch:Okay.

51:56And you know, we did it in a bunch of pigs and it's worked, Like they accepted it. They were doing it in rats at the same time and they published a paper and he was already doing surgeries of it and he's basically experimenting on people. Okay, because none of his research, like the pigs like didn't happen, yeah, or if they did, they all died. So even like when they test them on all the rats with like different organ parts, with the material, like all of them are failing, like they all died, like the dude comes back and they're all dead and it's like a six to basically they'll put it in someone and they basically have six to eight weeks after that to die. Okay, where, like the sutures break, the entire apparatus

52:36collapses, the body rejects it, infection. So he's already killed like eight people around this time. Yes, some weren't like immediate . Other ones were like there was like a little girl who he did a throat transplant and it's like, oh, like these are custom engineered for you and like they did a throat transplant and it's like, oh, like these are custom engineered for you and like they show him taking that. He's like taking out like a tape measure and like measuring, like the gap and how far he has to put it. And then he does it and they're like cutting material off to sew it in. Yeah, and like he almost kills one person in the operating room and like another doctor has to step in and like fix something

53:10because he nicked something else . And he's like dating this american journalist who like did like a story on him and they're getting married. And then she finds out he has like all these phones and he's up to some stuff. He's not telling her everything . Like the pope was going to officiate their wedding yeah the pope was not going to officiate their wedding. she called, like all the places they had reservations for for their wedding in Italy, and none of them had ever heard of them. So that's the part where me and Rachel got to. So still four more episodes to go and then the new episodes of Bridgerton, season 3, are out.

53:44Mitch:Oh yeah, you told us about those last time.

53:46Oh no, they split the season. So this is the back half.

53:49Mitch:Oh.

53:51Yay, uh-huh, this first one was good. I keep falling asleep in the second episode. That's because I keep watching it late.

53:59Mitch:I need to watch it early when I'm awake, all right. Well, we're gonna move on to a little special trivia that we're gonna have here. Oh, god not special trivia it's trivia that you have no reason to not know trivia.

54:11I have no reason to not know Trivia.

54:14Mitch:I have no reason to not know. You like that double entendre there, right? Yeah, all right and we're going to do this, and without Hayden's permission. I don't care if he's out of the country, he doesn't get a say. This will be whether you have to take the hot sauce for saying the F word in the other episode , or not?

54:31Oh my God. So this is the hardest trivia of my life. I need a PhD, don't I?
