0:02All right, are you ready, mitch? Oh, I pressed it. It took a second, mostly the roadcast. Like it's been three months we haven't been used.
0:22Hayden:Just.
0:30You saw me like inhale for it. Hello, welcome to entertain this, a podcast about movies, tv shows and video games in the year of our lower 2024. My name is Tom with me, I have, and we still don't have the crickets noise. Yeah. I, we need to sub one of these. We could sub out the Santa button, yeah. Yeah, we don't need that until for the next 11 months.
0:56Hayden:Yeah maybe hey, yeah it's gonna be a while.
1:02Yes, our, our dear third co-host, hayden, he's off galvaning somewhere. Yeah, for a very extended period of time. Yeah he didn't want to just quit the podcast, he wanted to leave the country. This way, we couldn't drag him here or make him feel guilty about not being here.
1:17Hayden:He physically left the country to get away.
1:21Now, no, I don't like you too anymore.
1:25Hayden:So well, I guess we'll. We'll talk to him later.
1:28We'll catch up with him at some point. We might have him like on zoom or something around. He might call one of us on a telephone, if they have pay phones, right.
1:36Hayden:Yes, or a cellular service. Yeah, that's might be, if he might be, if he's living in a cave somewhere.
1:45He's doing the. He's got like little stick people around campfire. He's like so he's like anyway, we're playing this game right by these people. It's sucked, he's doing it.
1:59Hayden:Got a little squirrel sitting around, shut up. Hey, before we dive in to this episode, social media Mitchell well, you can go to entertain this podcast, calm, which we'll take you to our Facebook group and page. Yes, I go to our Twitter, which is at this, entertain, our Instagram, which entertained out this, and our YouTube and TikTok was entertained. This at commercial point.
2:22Yes, you can go and do. Oh yeah, oh yeah. We hope you enjoyed our end of the year review episode, our compilation. Yeah, yeah. I'm happy you went with my two suggestions to open it with Hayden just going and then ended it with God. Yeah, I was editing those were the only two from that episode that made it on. There I was. I was like I thought there was a substantial amount of Content out of that one episode that Hayden was visibly uncomfortable .
2:51Hayden:Yeah.
2:55Oh, you should have put the end where he's like all right, mitch, just cut that whole bit all 36 minutes. Cuz the episode was like 36 minutes. Yeah, it just had that.
3:05Hayden:Little much I. Unfortunately I messed up on the in there double played one thing.
3:10Oh, cuz I was sitting there making something. I was sitting there making something to eat and that I heard it. So I was like didn't I just hear this bit? And I'm like, looking at my phone, I'm like did I touch my phone? It like backed up and I'm like, no, no, we're listening to this twice. I'm like it's still a funny little segment. I forgot about that entire. I mean, I forget normally what we talked about in the beginning of a show about time we get to the end of it. You did. You did have fun. I can tell you had fun and even do Transition noises.
3:41Hayden:Yeah, I took it from the the power rangers, where they teleport away, because Haden, I don't think realize it, cuz he didn't watch power rangers. Yeah.
3:53And if he did, he tried to block it out of his memory anyway by stabbing himself in the temple with a fork. Anyway, funny you, brent, mention it. So this is a shout out to Hayden, because he loves it when we just when me and Mitch devolve into talking what we really want Talk about, which is Lord of the Rings, power Rangers and wrestling. Yep, and so far we've talked about power Rangers.
4:17Hayden:Yeah, we're about to talk about Lord of the Rings. Don't worry, I'll mix wrestling in there somehow somehow wrestling will happen.
4:22Mitch had an idea for an episode, which is what we're about to do Basically how, like we'd been doing like with Halloween During that time we like the shining, shawn, the dead, yeah, where we went almost by like a scene by scene. But we're not gonna do, I'm not gonna do a total scene by scene a Fells ship of the ring, because it will be here for a while but with, you know, only two of us, it makes it harder to do a trivia competition.
4:45Hayden:So our formula is gonna change a little bit for the year. You know we'll still do some trivia every now and then, but uh, it's a little harder to do when you only have one competitor.
4:55It's like if I lose, like what happens?
4:56Hayden:it's like you punish yourself Come outside and punish yourself, chuck yourself. Not with your hand, mine, but um yeah. So in this episode we're gonna review Lord of the Rings, the fellowship Tom's gonna take us through his extensive knowledge of the film.
5:15I wouldn't say it's extensive.
5:17Hayden:Well, you're knowledge of Tolkien in general. I. Know more than the average bear you know a lot more than I do. I.
5:25Know their movies and they that they were based on books.
5:29Hayden:Oh, thanks, I'm glad we we've discussed that now. Anyways, let's start us off with a how it goes.
5:36Well, I mean the first words you hear in the movie, or Elvis, you hear the voiceover of Galadriel played by cable and shit. They're like kind of talking through like you know, oh once, that once was, you know was no loss. You know very like wispy cinematic to do and it kind of gives you like the I Guess it sets a backdrop because that you're introduced to the ring sauron, the last aligns of metan elves and all that part of the beginning.
6:01Hayden:That's all from the first or second age.
6:03That's at the very end of the second age brain the second, and then how far?
6:06Hayden:because you have the Hobbit movies. How far From the Hobbit movies is this life forward, oh?
6:13like Over, like two and a half thousand years.
6:17Hayden:From the end of the Hobbit movie. Oh, no, no, no no, no from you. Let's say 77 years if you go by the book, okay. So yeah, I mean yeah.
6:29Because they go on their adventure. 60 years later is Bilbo's birthday party, where he gives a ring to Frodo. Frodo stays in the Shire for 17 years, oh before he leaves Before he actually leaves.
6:41Hayden:Oh, so they just kind of skip all that.
6:43Yeah, because 17 years of him just hobbiting around. Because, like in the Bilbo's 111th birthday, frodo turns 33, which is like turning 18 to Hobbits, where it's like, oh, you're a man now, even though you've spent the last 33 years just sitting in fields, farming, drinking and smoking pipe weed, which are boys. And then 17 years later is when he actually sets out to Rivendell with the ring.
7:09Hayden:As opposed to the movie where it looks like it's like a week.
7:12It's basically a long weekend Like he gets it and then Gandalf comes back and goes . We gotta get out of here. Things are going terribly.
7:18Hayden:And then Gandalf, because he's what they call a Maiar. He's been around for what? Thousands of years.
7:25Almost time, immeasurable.
7:27Hayden:So it's just the beginning pretty much.
7:29I mean I hate the rings of power, but the dude that plays Sauron, who's not Sauron, that we all know is Sauron, and I was right at the end of the series where it's just like, oh, he is Sauron. It's like, wow, no one would have thought that, but everybody . But he's like where he tells her that he's like. I've been awake since the before the breaking of the first silence, like that's roughly how old Gandalf would be, because they're both Maiar.
7:52Hayden:Now, how come he? I mean, I know he's that old, but why doesn't he? He doesn't seem like he is that old, Like he's.
7:58Gandalf.
8:00Hayden:Yeah, he doesn't act like he's got that kind of knowledge.
8:02Well, he has a lot of knowledge. Oh he just doesn't so when Hang on, we get to the Wizards in a second. So they show, you know, the very end of the second age, with the Last Alliance, now the Siege of Baradour and their assault into Mordor. That was seven years. Okay of laying Siege to Baradour, which is Sauron's fortress. Okay, seven years, and actually dwarves did fight in that they don't show it. Okay, um, you seal and deal.
8:32Hayden:No, was this all in Rings of Power? No, it was in Fellowship. Constraining on Fellowship oh you're talking about at the very beginning, where they showed those, yeah, in the books that's a seven-year event.
8:41Gotcha Of them like storming the Black Gates, fighting their way into Mordor and then besieging Sauron's tower. Okay, so during that, anarion, which is a shield to his brother , is killed during the Siege. Sauron eventually exits his tower after seven years of being like alright, I guess I'll handle this one myself. He I mean they show Gil-Galad briefly. The only reason you know what Gil-Galad is is if, like you saw , like the extendeds were like, oh yeah, he was gonna have like a different scene. The actor is like he's playing Gil-Galad. He has the spear that Gil-Galad's famous for. He dies along with Elendil, but they actually brought Sauron down at the same time in a tag team like in wrestling.
9:21So the whole like Sauron, like he burned Gil-Galad to death, like he literally just grabbed him by the throat, lifted him off the ground and like incinerated him, which probably would have been really cool to watch. Also horrifying he does kill Elendil, but they struck Sauron down at the same time. He didn't kill him. And then Isildur, who takes up the broken sword, cuts the ring off Sauron's hand while he's still laying on the ground. So, it's not as like climactic as like Sauron, because everybody's like, oh, why'd Sauron go to grab Isildur with his hand? It's like he was gonna pick him up and light him on fire and incinerate him like he did the Gil-Galad, like he just did it to like the High King of the Elves or the last High King of
10:02the Null Door in Middle Earth, like he wasn't expecting his hand to get sliced off.
10:07Hayden:Well, that was one of the questions I had. That I was gonna ask you later was uh, what exactly like? Because Sauron gets his finger cut off and then he just like explodes.
10:14So like Because he was separated from the ring.
10:17Hayden:I mean, that's the only thing that kept him alive.
10:19No, he's still alive. He can't die. But Even in the end of the, even at the end of Return of the King, when they destroy the ring, they don't kill him outright. He's still alive.
10:27Hayden:So I mean, how did you beat him then?
10:30Because when he made the ring he put so much of his own life force into it that if he lost it he was basically crippled because of it. So even when he loses the ring, it takes like 2,000 years almost for him to rebuild enough of his own forces and power to be able to remanifest himself in a physical form.
10:51Hayden:Okay, well, I thought that was what was going on and I was like you know, they cut his finger off and he like explodes. How does he still stay alive?
10:57I mean, if he had the ring it would have been way quicker. Okay. Because when, during the fall of Numenor, his fair form body's destroyed and Numenor swallowed by the ocean, he still has the ring and he can only take fair forms. It was outright destroyed, but he can still rebuild himself. It took a while, but even with the ring it was a much faster process.
11:15Hayden:Okay.
11:16And then he was all cool and armored and spiky.
11:18Hayden:So he basically just can't die Like he's kind of like one.
11:21Yeah, he basically just becomes like a vengeful, like almost spirit-like person.
11:25Hayden:Well, kind of like Gandalf, like he dies you know.
11:26Quote-unquote and then he comes back. Okay, well, gandalf was sent back. Well. He was the only one of the five wizard sentimentals who actually was trying to do the mission that they were sent to do in the first place. I'm saying like he was main-questing and they were like you need to finish the main quest for the achievement. Everybody else Eftoff, stopped playing, went AFK and, like you know, got caught up in side quests.
11:47Hayden:Okay, okay, yeah, I just wanted to. Mm-hmm, but so Frodo gets the ring.
11:56Well, the seal door takes the ring and you see him briefly with it and you know he's ambushed by orcs, killed because the ring grew on his hand to slide off. Yeah, the ring is sentient.
12:09Hayden:Yeah, because I remember seeing it like grow and fall off and then it'll shrink and it'll fit in the other's wound.
12:13Yeah, like even when the seal door takes it it's sour on size and then it slowly you see it go To fit the seal door's hand. Yeah, but I mean the ring immediately was starting to corrupt him, okay, which is why when he gets to Mount, Like he had the ring for like maybe an hour, when he's like standing there at the pit of doom, it could have ended it all right there. Yeah, I mean Elrond really just could have spartan kicked him. That's what's up, because once that thing exploded he'd be like oh, the seal door got hit by like a falling rock, knocked him out. There's nothing I can do.
12:40Hayden:Well, that was nothing. I was like why didn't Elrond?
12:42He had the opportunity this is sparta, kick him.
12:44Hayden:Yeah well, I mean, you're an elf, he's a human, just take it from him. Yeah, no, yeah, elrond, probably couldn't. Yeah, let's not get bogged down on Ud. He could have just taken it from him and killed him. He could have or not killed him , but like thrown it in the water and let the fires.
13:00In the crack of doom.
13:01Hayden:Yeah.
13:02Which is typically what you call your butt, the crack of doom awake.
13:06Hayden:I just kind of I don't know. I was like, why would he not just take it from him and get rid of it there?
13:13So a seal door takes it loses the battle of the Gladen Fields. He's killed. The ring floats down the Anduin River where it's found by Degle , who's Gollum's cousin. Or Smigel. Yes, smigel, he finds it, gollum sees it and the ring of Mili is like Yo, what's up, hey girl? So he loses it, he kills him, takes it and then he's eventually he realizes because he goes back in the town with the ring on that no one can see him. It turned him invisible, okay. So he's immediately poisoned with it and he just like runs him up, killing and stealing and being a nair duel and a hoodlum .
13:53Hayden:Okay, so he can interact with the real world when he's wearing the ring.
13:57Yeah, he can still touch stuff, do stuff. So what is it? He's just invisible.
14:00Hayden:Okay, so you just make him invisible. I want to show you another realm, because you can see the ring.
14:04Yeah, they call it the shadow realm, which sounds really cool. He's in the shadow, like the rates exist in the shadow realm. Okay. Because they have nine rings of power, but their constant use made them invisible. That's why they got the cloaks on, so they could actually be seen instead of just. I mean, it would be much more horrifying just to see a sword running at you, or not running a sword, just floating aggressively in your direction. You don't know who's got what. Is it a person? Is it a ringwraith? Is it the wind? Is it a really light sword on a breeze? So he takes it and then he stays in the Misty Mountains for two and a half thousand years.
14:39Hayden:Two and a half thousand years, yeah, oh, jeez.
14:44Until the events of the Hobbit wearing the Misty Mountains in Goblin Town. Bill Bow gets separated, finds golem, or he finds the ring first, because the ring abandons golem because it's like, all right, it's between to have that tighter beating in this freaking cave, just to be picked up by Bilbo and then Bilbo escapes with the ring and has it .
15:02Hayden:And then Bilbo. He finds it in the Hobbit movie . Yes, it was at the end of the Hobbit movies.
15:07Now he finds it in the first one.
15:09Hayden:Or does. Ok, I'll stick in a little later.
15:11Yeah, he finds it in unexpected journey.
15:12Hayden:OK.
15:13And then he was like about to reveal it, but didn't.
15:17Hayden:At the end.
15:17yeah, Gandalf knew Bilbo had the ring, Not the one ring but it had the ring for Like decades he was aware that it's like yeah.
15:30Hayden:Well, that's another thing like, because I guess Gandalf could be corrupted by it too.
15:34Oh yeah, it's like the more powerful the person is, I mean, the ring will corrupt you eventually. Ok, the only person that won't is Sauron, because the ring isn't him anyway.
15:42Hayden:What's awesome is like with him being so powerful when Frodo offers it to him, he's like he doesn't want to touch it. He's going to look at it, he's just like no. Yeah.
15:49Because he knows that if he's subcept was susceptible to the powers of the ring, that would be an entirely new set of issues. Ok. That'd be like him getting like plus 50 stats to everything. Ok, and Gandalf was already overpowered when he came back as Gandalf the White anyway.
16:06Hayden:So yeah, so you have Gandalf. And then he's our Frodo and Sam , are you know? He tells them to go on their adventure to return the rings. And well, originally in the book what they do.
16:22Frodo buys a house at the like, the end of like, at the end of like Buckland, which is in the Shire somewhere on the map behind me. Consult them at Mitchell. So he sells back end to the Sackville Bagginses who are his like, angry old, like relatives from Bilbo side who hate him because they want to back end for like ever. But Bilbo wouldn't die because he had the ring. They didn't know that. But so he leaves, goes to Crick Hollow and then they find out that like oh, gandalf had this message You're supposed to have left by this time and it's like all right, that was like a month ago. So then they have to leave, because by that point Sauron already had found Gollum and interrogated and tortured them,
17:06just to hear two words Shire, shire, baggins. It's like all we need sends out the ring.
17:13Hayden:How did they capture Gollum? I forget, I mean because I don't think in the movie it explains.
17:18Now they don't explain it and I don't remember how they said they caught him. I don't know if he was caught by orcs or if the ring rates like hunted him down and drug him back. Ok, like they went after him like bounty hunters, OK. But he ends up getting re interrogated. Like he like is, let go to go back into the world. I don't know why I said I just did not right kill him but I didn't write the book. Erdogan captures him in the dead marshes and brings him back to Merckwood where Gandalf interrogates him, learns more about Gollum's backstory because he says in the fellowship, where it's like you know the whole, like you know he lived here. He's one of, like the whatever river hobbits, yada yada.
18:02Yada, yada. But then he learns that Gollum gave up shy or baggins so he has to hightail it back to one Frodo While he's off on his other mission to figure out about the ring. When he goes to, you see him go to ministeris, ok, and he finds like the lost scrolls, for like a seal door where he like wrote out like what the ring said in flames. Not what it actually says, but like you know, like the effects is, like you know I have it, but I buy by great pain, like just possessing it hurts.
18:32Hayden:Well, so you get the. The race start coming after Frodo and Sam. Well, Frodo mostly, but they just want to start coming after them. What are the race like?
18:42the race used to be men.
18:43Hayden:But like, how do they get the way they are?
18:47The rings, the rings. They have the nine rings of power.
18:49Hayden:So they were the original there's 20 rings of power, but there's 20 rings of power.
18:53There's a lot of lesser rings, but those don't really matter.
18:55Hayden:But they were the nine men that originally got OK so they've been alive for over a thousand years.
19:01OK, well they're constantly used to the ring, like the rings when they were mortal gave them, like you know, they could turn invisible. It enhanced like their like prowess in battle speech. They became great men in their own rights, but they consistently lived under the will and shadow of Sauron. They just didn't know it at the beginning until it slowly drove them OK into his will.
19:25Hayden:Well, that's not. I was going to wonder. I was like, how did they? Just because I thought they were the nine men that had the rings was like how did they become evil?
19:33It's the ice machine.
19:34Hayden:I heard it, I was like.
19:34What is that? I was the ice, Because there is the nine for men, three for the elves, which, when Sauron made the one put it on the elves had their rings on immediately. New.
19:45Hayden:And how does it look? And took them off. How does the one ring control all the others?
19:50The will of Sauron.
19:50Hayden:Just just because he made it? Or did he make all the rings? No, no. Well, how come his one ring?
19:57Because he was always the same way. He taught them how to make them .
20:01Hayden:Oh, he taught them how to make the other rings.
20:02Yeah, he taught Caleb Rembore how to make rings of power and then he made the master, you know, the universal remote.
20:09Hayden:OK, on his own, and no way to like kind of like dumb it down. But what's all this like? How does his ring control all the other ones? Because I thought they were made by somebody else, but he didn't realize he had taught them how to make them.
20:19Because I think he helped. He made the ones for the dwarves and the nine, but he didn't personally have a hand in creating the three elven rings.
20:27Hayden:OK, just wondering. Just like I said have some questions I had to ask you.
20:34So then, frodo Sam, who get Mary and Pippin. Which Mary and Pippin? They came into the story in a little bit of a different way.
20:41Hayden:OK.
20:41In the books, where they all knew each other as friends. Well, he wasn't, and they didn't bump into each other. Yeah. But they knew when Frodo was leaving to go to Crick Hall that it was just like a ruse to get him out of the shire. And all of them were like they were in on. Like no, we'll take you the whole way. Like we got you. Ok. We got you fam. They're not like as stupid in the books, ok, oh, especially while Pippin kind of is, but Pippin also has like a lot of great moments in the books too.
21:13Hayden:They don't make it into the movies.
21:14Yeah, I mean. I mean most people just remember him like turning the arrow and the skeleton on the well and alerting all of the goblins and works and killing Gandalf, Basically what he did led to the Balrog waking up, figuring out they were there, Gandalf dying. Yeah. So he kind of he had to take that one that there was like like no, that was, that was you.
21:36Hayden:Well, before we get there, they go to the Branson Pony.
21:39Well, they fight their way. They meet Farmer Maggot, who plays a bit more of a back story . He takes them to the Brandywine Bridge.
21:46Hayden:OK.
21:46And they, because the ring rates came to his farm, yeah, looking for him, they're looking for Frodo, or like where he lived and he was like get out of here, you know big people know I have to ask you the ring race.
21:59Hayden:They can sense the ring right.
22:01Yeah, they can sense them.
22:02Hayden:How is it?
22:03I don't think it's that kind of sense Like yeah, it's not like you know. Uav online.
22:08Hayden:Well, I was like how is it?
22:09they.
22:10Hayden:Frodo hid underneath one of them, as he leaned over this ledge and couldn't sense that he was.
22:15I mean the ring. He knew the ring was around, but it wasn't like Maybe right under there.
22:22Hayden:I was wondering. I was like if he can sense, like how does he not know? It was that close. But OK, I don't know.
22:28I mean, it's not like you know wall, wall, wall, wall wall. Well hexed wall Hexed, he's walling hacker, so then they go through, they make the Brandywine Bridge, they make it through to Bree, where they meet Aragorn, and then it's that point that you find out that Gandalf hasn't been here yet Aragorn know they were coming, or he just happened to be yes, ok. Aragorn knew that they were coming.
22:55Hayden:OK.
22:56Aragorn was just waiting for him.
22:57Hayden:Well, I was wondering . It's like, did he just happen to be in the same?
22:59No, because, Gandalf and Aragorn have known each other prior to all this. Ok, and actually Gandalf had Aragorn and the remaining range of the north Like they actually formed, like the borders of the Shire to protect it.
23:11Hayden:Gotcha.
23:12So they were like on guard duty.
23:13Hayden:OK, and then Gandalf at this time is, he goes and he's in prison.
23:18Denies and guard.
23:19Hayden:Well, like what made Saruman become bad? Like what?
23:23Well, Saruman had been bad since the Hobbit.
23:28Hayden:But I mean what corrupted him?
23:30The ring.
23:31Hayden:But he didn't have the ring.
23:32I know he became fascinated, obsessed with it and then, when he found the plant here, he slowly started like Sauron didn't reveal himself but was guiding him into.
23:44Hayden:OK, so when he found the plant here, that's when he started. Ok, I'm just trying to figure out.
23:48Because, like during, like the events of the Hobbit and on, like the ring, like the reason like they didn't attack Sauron immediately in Durgledor was because Saruman was searching for the ring OK, where a sealed door was killed.
24:00Hayden:OK.
24:01And like sending. Like you know, he was out looking for himself.
24:04Hayden:Well, I was just wondering, like because if he was Gandalf's friend, like how did he just all of a sudden Well , their relationship was strained from when they got to Middle Earth. Ok.
24:12Because Kierdan had the ring Narya, which is one of the three Elven rings, the Ring of Fire. And then, when all the wizards entered Middle Earth, he deduced that Gandalf was the one who was going to be in most need of it and the most reliable and probably the smartest and the strongest and wisest of all of them, even though Saruman was in charge. Ok, and Kierdan gives the ring to Gandalf. So, during this, gandalf has one of the rings of power.
24:38Hayden:Oh well, yeah, I didn't know that. Ok, so yeah. So, while they're at the end, frodo ends up putting the ring on by accident. Well, yeah, he's. He falls down and like falls on his finger.
24:55The ring does it on purpose. Yeah Well, yeah, the ring was the same.
24:58Hayden:I'm saying Frodo did it on accident.
25:00Yeah, dropped it because Pippin can't keep his mouth shut. It was like back, oh yeah, no, back. It's that guy in there, and this is like the lie was totally working. Everybody believed his name was under hill.
25:10Hayden:And then Ehrgorn knew that when that happened, that the was.
25:14He immediately disappeared. He was like oh crap.
25:16Hayden:Well, he knew that the race would be on their way once that happened.
25:18Yeah.
25:19Hayden:Why did they just stay across the street?
25:23I mean they like move to a different part, like they set up, like a whole fake out.
25:27Hayden:Why no?
25:28But like you see Ehrgorn watching from his window to the other window, yeah, this is like he was not really much you could hide in that little town.
25:35Hayden:You could leave the town. I know right I just thought it was funny that like they, like I'm floating in and they just get fooled by stuff stuffed under a mattress.
25:45That seems to scare a crap on me when I was little. Oh yeah, it's terrifying because, like the hobbits are sleeping, then it just cuts like the pan out of the room and you see all five of them with swords floating in basically. No like they're standing there, like in their room with their swords and then you just see them, like, walk to the beds and you don't even hear them. And they have metal shoes. Yeah, they flip the swords down , the stab into the bed. It's like, oh right. It's like, wake up.
26:07Hayden:Run. I mean it's pretty creepy, you know moment. So they leave there and as they're traveling, Ehrgorn takes them into the wild. Was it? They come across like some ruins that they make a camp.
26:22Well, hang on, there's actually more. Let me backtrack because I'm thinking of the movie, but I got to tell you what happens in the books, because prior to meeting Ehrgorn, this is also when they meet Tom Bombadil. Ok when they're going, because they go through the old forest, they meet old man Willow, who's not a person to tree, that like absorbs, like all of them, ok, like with the roots, and then Tom Bombadil comes, saves them, which they kind of do like a nod to it in two towers.
26:49Hayden:And who is Tom Bombadil? I mean, I know, but just for the audience.
26:54He's the oldest.
26:55Hayden:He's the oldest. Was it the hobbit or no?
26:57No he's not. He's taller than dwarves, shorter than men, ok, but he'd been there since, like before the first rainfall, like he. He's just kind of like. He's almost like they don't say he's God. A lot of people think he is. He's actually like a Louvitar just hanging out.
27:15Hayden:Well, it's like how's he's alive so long? He just just just, is he just?
27:19he just like, he just is.
27:21Hayden:OK.
27:21That's basically like the summary of it. It's like Tom Bombadil, just as Tom Bombadil. That's really it. Ok. But he takes the ring, puts it on, doesn't turn invisible, makes it disappear in one hand, pulls out a Frodo's ear in the other. Like he, like they're just like , because even in the Council of Alaron they thought like leaving the ring with Tom Bombadil, and then they were like now he'd lose it. Like that's just no, he can't be trusted.
27:44Hayden:I guess that's why they don't include him in the movie, because it'd be too much to try to explain.
27:47And then they go through like the barrow downs. They meet the Barrow Whites, which are like evil spirits or like ghosts. Ok. Almost kill Sam Marion Pippin. Frodo saves them. It's also how to get their swords. Tom Bombadil gives them like treasure and swords taking from the barrow downs because they were forged by the men of the West.
28:09Hayden:OK.
28:10And that's why in the movie Aragorn like just has four swords, yeah, and he's like oh here, like I was waiting for you guys, I had these ready. They already had weapons.
28:19Hayden:OK.
28:20And they were like, of beyond high quality, because they said like forged by the men of Westerness. That's why Pippin, no Mary is able to hurt the Witch King and return to the King.
28:32Hayden:OK.
28:34Just tying all the little spaghetti noodles. So yes then, fast-foting. They meet Aragorn, they leave, they're on their way, they make it to.
28:46Hayden:They go to some kind of ruins that they're on top of.
28:48They go to Weathertop .
28:50Hayden:What is that Like? Where's Weathertop?
28:51was the watchtower of Amon Sule.
28:54Hayden:Which is what?
28:56Watchtower in the far north. I mean for the Kingdom of Amorn . It was destroyed during the or in Aragorn. It was the place where Uh Elendil stood waiting for Gilgillad.
29:10Hayden:Okay, oh, I'm sure if it had some kind of significance or what it was destroyed during the war.
29:13The last lines I just figured.
29:15Hayden:I figured that, told between Tolkien and Peter Jackson, they would include stuff that would have significance.
29:20I just did so much significance, it's hard to include, but that's when they're out there, they get jumped. Uh, they also find their like runes and like there was like a bunch of stones that are burned and Aragorn's, like you know, it's a G rune, you know, with like a number, and it's like Gandalf was here. Okay, that's like he had to write this in Hays. It's like there was a great battle of fire. They actually saw it like the night before, like in the distance, okay, the fight happening in it. I'm in school with Gandalf in the Nazgul that they don't show, because he took like four of them on it once and that would have been like really cool to see because at that point, he escaped from Isengard.
29:57Okay, and he was trying to meet up with them to help get them to Rivendell. Okay. Okay so that would be a really cool fight to watch. Anyway, we get Aragorn fighting five Nazgul at once. And you why? Everybody's scared and it's like Aragorn just comes out with a stick on fire and a sword.
30:13Hayden:So that's the whole reason that there's only five there as opposed to the other ones were chasing down Gandalf, okay. That makes more sense because later on you hear Arwen asking why there's uh where the other four are.
30:24Yeah, they were hunting after Gandalf.
30:27Hayden:They should explain that in the movie a little better.
30:28Yeah, but also the character for Arwen. I mean she exists in the books. Her and Aragorn have a romance. They get married at the end We've happily ever after, until he does and then she does. But her showing up doesn't happen like that at all. She's not a part of that.
30:44Hayden:Oh no, it's Glorphindel, Is she in the first book?
30:46Yeah, she's in the first book because she's at Rivendell. Now runs daughter still. Okay, you know Freddo gets stabbed. They break off the piece of the morgoblade inside of them.
30:55Hayden:And why is the morgoblade the way it is? Like what? What does it do?
30:58It turns, whoever is cut with it, into a ring right.
31:03Hayden:I mean, is it just like a curse on the metal or sort Okay On the dagger?
31:07It was a dagger given to the witch king of Angmar by Sauron.
31:11Hayden:So is there just one of them, or is each each Nazgul have one?
31:14I think only the witch king has one. He's the only one ever seen with one. He's the only one mentioned with it. Okay, so he's the one that basically stabs yeah he stabs Freddo Okay, and like they back off thinking like oh, it's just a matter of time, we don't even have to fight him anymore. It's just going to kill him. And well, I won't kill him, I'll turn him into a wraith and he'll just bring the ring to us, like we'll just, you know, hang back, let this all pan out. Basically, it's like they threw like a like the cluster mine into a room with four dudes and just closed the door and waited Like yeah, but it turns out they all had hacks on so they could just, you know, throw it to work for them and not kill their
31:45teammates, because Aragorn is able to heal them partially, not entirely, yeah.
31:50Hayden:Aragorn slows it initially. He slows it with some kind of they yeah.
31:54Yeah, athelas, which is Kings foil. Okay, um, they go some distance they find the stone trolls from the hobbit they. Gandalf turned the stone.
32:04Hayden:Well, in the movie, arwen takes Frodo to Rivendell, right.
32:06Yes, she takes him and outruns the Nazgul across the river and all that which cool scene, totally awesome, kind of happens like that in the book, not really, because when they're they find the trolls. They're like, oh my God, there's trolls, and it's like broad daylight and Aragorn is like, well, let's take a closer look, because he's not stupid. Trolls can't be out in sunlight . Now he's, like you, trying to worry me about trolls and sunlight. Now the trolls from the hobbit.
32:29Hayden:They they're still stone. They don't, they don't turn back at nighttime.
32:34Nope, okay, that's it I want you to if they were like kind of like gargoyles what they changed?
32:37Hayden:Nope.
32:37They were still in the same spot, same facial expressions. One had like a bird's nest behind his ear.
32:43Hayden:Okay, so they were there.
32:46Frodo starts getting like subcepting, like more and more, or like fading, yeah, as they call it Until. As they call it, until they eventually meet Glorfindel, who's one of the high elves and had. I might be wrong, but I don't think I am. Glorfindel is the one that coined the prophecy where the witch king of Angmar will be killed. Like, his death won't come at the hand of a man. Okay, which is true, because Aowyn is a woman who kills him in Return of the King. Girl power, strong female characters kicking butt. But Glorfindel had fought like he'd been alive since before the first age. Okay, he died and was actually brought back and sent back to Middle Earth Because he was a G Like. Glorfindel is like you got Aragorn good and then you got
33:36like, basically turn him into an elf, give him immortality and years and years and years, like thousands of years more battle experience and fighting Balrogs. You got Glorfindel. Okay, he was that kind of dude. So he shows up, he escorts them . They pretty much make it almost to the river. That's when Glorfindel is like you know we have to fight him because they're just going to. we can't keep going Like we're there to our bath to catch us. He puts Frodo on the horse and sends the horse. He tells the horse and Elvis go . Oh, so the horse is, takes him by himself. Yeah.
34:06Hayden:Okay Now in the movie , Aowyn goes across the water and with the Nazgul can't cross water or not.
34:12Technically they can, but they really don't want to, and then she all, elves, have that power where they can just like summon stuff.
34:19Hayden:No, elrond has that power, okay.
34:21Because Elrond has the ring of like water and air.
34:23Hayden:Okay, so he has some hairs. That, yeah, he has Vilya, okay so, and Gandalf, like the rocks and like the whatever.
34:31it's like Gandalf out of the touch. Because they were waiting for Frodo to show up, they send Glorfindel to go find him. Gotcha, okay. So then you know the Nazgul like their horses are going to be, like they're going to go to school, like their horses are destroyed. They have to skulk all the way back to Mordor to re up, refit and get back out there. Because even in the like Frodo, like they go, and like the Nazgul show up to Aragorn and Glorfindel and they just go right past them. They're like no, no, no, no, no , no, no Him, he has the ring.
35:04Hayden:Not them Okay.
35:04Because even like when Glorfindel, like when Frodo sees him because he's turning into a race, he could see how Glorfindel looks on the other side, how he would look in Valinor in the Undying Lands, got it, and he's, like you can see, like the angel. Yeah, he's basically like super angelic looking and awesome. Cool. So then they make it to Rivendell. Gandalf brings up the current events. They have the Council of Elrond and you also learn, because Gimli's there, his father Glowen is there and his father was on Bilbo's quest Okay, 77 years ago , because ring rates came to the mist. They are the ring rates. They don't say if it was specifically ring rates or if it was actually the mouth of Sauron.
35:46Okay. Go to Erebor, to the Lonely Mountain, like inquiring and, like you know, basically like giving them like a demand and then an ultimatum which leads to like war there that happens, while the war the rings, happens that they don't really touch on .
36:00Hayden:Okay, so basically the dwarves are in a battle in the middle.
36:04Yeah, the dwarves and elves of on the east side of the Misty Mountains are busy. They do get it out with orcs and Easterlings over there.
36:12Hayden:Now during the whole fellowship, like conglomerate there, why does the rest of them like, because you get the nine people, why does not everybody else just go with them too? Like this is an important mission.
36:27It's a really important mission, but it's also super secret, like you have the Council, because, like even like Barmere gets there the day of the Council, he's been traveling for like a year, like his horse died halfway through. He was out. He walked to Rivendell from Gondor. As I travel. A lot of walking. He was tired because he has the ring where he has the premonition. He's like him and Faramere both have the same dream. Faramere had it a lot more, barmere had it once. Barmere like Ysildur's Bane, like the hour of, like the half, like you know, basically like go to Rivendell. They found the ring, go to Rivendell, which is like Barmere , they equate to like if Faramere went, because Faramere
37:18like rebukes the power of the ring when he's offered it to Barmere's suscept to it. They were like Barmere could have probably like he redeemed himself at the end, which is like eh, but really they look like probably should have sent Faramere. He probably would have been a better fit and not as much of a douche.
37:36Hayden:But, like again, like you know, why didn't Elrond go? Because it's kind of like it's important, he knows how important it is.
37:42So the whole thing like them destroying the ring was such a left curve or like out of left field thing for Sauron that Sauron doesn't even consider that even a possibility at all yeah, that they would try to destroy it. Yeah. It's like the ring corrupts people to use it, like they're going to all team up and you try to use the ring against me, because that's what I would do. Yeah. And the thought of just destroying it and being like, sucks, like, does not even cross his mind ever, like he doesn't realize it until the very end when Frodo puts on the ring in Mount Doom and Sauron suddenly panics and realizes what they had done the entire time Okay, and craps himself because he's about to be killed.
38:20They talk like Elrond wasn't going to go. Elrond and Glorffindel were talked about going, more or less Glorffindel. Glorffindel is such a high profile person for secrecy like anywhere that dude went something's up something's up like we need some secrecy, and then they send the hobbits like trusting into, like their friendship with each other would be like a wiser move than, like you know, glorffindel, going over just pure strength of arms. Okay, plus they're small.
38:49Hayden:I was just wondering like it would, such a high priority thing going on here while they sit in the best. But that makes sense. They're trying to be sneaky.
38:56They're trying to be very, very sneaky because they thought, like Elrond's sons were going to go Elrond's sons do show up, not in fellowship, but they show up and return to the king. Okay, with the Grey Company, which they totally blocked that out in the movies. So then they set forth on the quest to destroy the ring and it's like I mean, they like you show, like they leave, and it's like, as they're walking, it's all majestic and awesome. And then booms, you know mountains, where they're in the snow.
39:27Hayden:That's like 40 days, oh, yeah, it's about a month that they're traveling through the like the mountains and all that stuff.
39:35Yeah, when they try to take the pass of. Coradros, or like the red mountain, which is like they're, like it's red, like it's stained with blood, like the mountain doesn't even like them. They make it seem like the mountain is sentient, okay, and it's like every time we go, like the snow, the set, and the other time we stop. This is like the mountains, like hell bent. I'm like, nah, you don't need to be on my mountain, it's my mountain.
39:57Hayden:And then. So when they go up the mountain , they end up having to turn back. And in the book is does Frodo make the decision to go to the mines or do they just have to?
40:06like that's the option. No, it's actually Gandalf's decision.
40:10Hayden:Well, because I know in the movie Gandalf asked Frodo what they should do.
40:13Yeah, gandalf knows what's lurking. Like they talk about it, like they know, like because they also wanted to go, because they hadn't heard from the dwarves in like 30 years, that went there. Yeah, like we don't know. Aragorn did not want to go through the mines of Moria.
40:26Hayden:So did he know what was there? Yeah, he knew.
40:28That's why he didn't want to go. He was like it's like. it's like four days to get from one side to the other In pure darkness. That's why Moria Moria is the translation of the black pit.
40:41Hayden:So what I was going to say, that's what I actually. What was the like, the significance to the mines of Moria, but other than like, what was it before? The Balrog was there?
40:48It was Khazadim which was like. That was where Durin the first created Khazadim like his kingdom.
40:56Hayden:So Durin the first.
40:57Like when he like when they're at the lake or whatever and they're throwing rocks and they disturb the watch in the water. Like Durin, when he awoke and came down from Mount Gundabad, like he looked in the water and saw the seven stars for the crown above his head and he looked there wasn't any stars in the sky, but he looked back in the water and the stars were there and he's like here's where I'm making it, this is where my kingdom is going to be.
41:21Hayden:Now Durin, the first. Is that the same one from the Hobbit, or is that his father?
41:26Durin's, not in the Hobbit.
41:29Hayden:I thought he was the the main, like the King Elf.
41:32That's Thorin.
41:32Hayden:Thorin, sorry, sorry.
41:34Thorin's a descendant of Durin.
41:38Hayden:Okay, that's what I thought the prophecy was.
41:40Durin is like there's going to be seven of them.
41:42Hayden:Okay.
41:43And once the seven one eventually passes, like that will pretty much be the end of the dwarves.
41:47Hayden:Okay.
41:48Because I think in during this time they're on Durin the sixth.
41:52Hayden:Okay.
41:53Basically like they choose people, who they look like them or behave like them and they're given the name Got you Of Durin, okay, and then the creature outside of the mines.
42:03Hayden:What is that?
42:03Nobody knows, it's just a watcher in the water. Just some kind of they don't know. Crackin, looking they're like because there was no water outside the west gate.
42:13Hayden:Okay.
42:13Of Moria, but eventually the pool formed and just slowly made its way right to the, to the door, and then that thing happened to be there. Okay, they don't know where it came from, where it was, but it was there.
42:28Hayden:Okay. So then they end up fighting that thing off. They get inside the mines and then they discover who are all the dwarves that were dead. Like that was just the people you were talking about.
42:40Several of them were from Thorin's company.
42:42Hayden:Okay, some of them were from the expedition.
42:45Balaan was killed. There's like two others Ori, who was like the one with like the coconut hair, and he was killed. One of them is eaten by the watcher, I think Owen is.
42:58Hayden:Okay.
42:59Because even oh Think , is it? Nori is either goofy looking one. He's the one that it was actually writing in the book that they find the chamber of Mars.
43:09Hayden:He was the gray hair with the glasses right.
43:12No, that was the. That was. I think ory nori is the young one with the slingshot.
43:17Hayden:Okay.
43:18Okay, it was kind of like we doing Fight not here you got a slingshot. They have swords and armor.
43:24Hayden:Yeah, get a weapon, get an axe, damn you now, when they go into the mines, they end up making the noise and attracting all the these goblins and orcs. Were they just hiding there?
43:34So goblins and orcs are like. Orcs are goblins but like they're like Exclusively underground. It's like an interchangeable term. Okay for like they're like much more stooped down in stature from being in caves. Their eyes are much bigger because they're adapted to seeing in the dark.
43:52Hayden:No, I mean, did they just live there, or were they?
43:55waiting on. No, they live there. Okay, that's their spot.
43:57Hayden:Well, how did they take it over? They just took it over.
43:59Yeah, mm-hmm, okay, works, love being underground. Okay, and they love fighting doors.
44:03Hayden:Well, I was wondering why the why in the dwarves kingdom they were hidden.
44:07I mean, the dwarves got driven out of Moria when they woke up, the Balrog, okay, thousands of years ago and had they wake up the Balrog they dug into it.
44:15Hayden:I was like they found it just hiding.
44:17they uncovered them, they woke them up. That's what happened Okay isn't like they. There's like either Seven Balrogs or there's like armies of Balrogs, but when Morgoth was eventually defeated, like Most of the Balrogs were already, count for is being killed in action. Some, they think, like just buried themselves deep underground. They just went into the cave systems of angband and then, through the reshaping and destruction of part of a Reiki on now, was this Balrog?
44:47Hayden:was that Durance Bane ?
44:48That's Durance Bane, yet because he kills during, yeah, when they wake it up, the doors go to fight him and he kills Duran.
44:55Hayden:I'm just saying he kills during the fifth. We're saying that's my camber tag.
45:01Yeah, they woke him up. He was not happy about it. I.
45:05Hayden:Know the feeling um.
45:07There's the goblins there. Like they a live in fear of it.
45:10Hayden:I don't want to go on the same side of that. Let's serve sorrow.
45:13Yeah, see, the Balrogs are my, are Like Gandalf and Sauron, so they're like another they don't? They're not answering to someone on the same plateau. Got you Okay. That's why they answered to Morgoth, who was a Valor. There's only like 14 Valor.
45:27Hayden:So why all the orcs live in in the Balrogs place if they don't serve him?
45:32They like worship him like a god.
45:35Hayden:Okay, oh.
45:36That's kind of.
45:36Hayden:I do think it's kind of funny, like when the orcs all them are chasing them and they got the fellowship surrounded. No, I, oh, he's what run away. But then so you got a the Balrog chasing them through the the rest of the mines and Gandalf ends up fighting him. So it's Gandalf and the Balrog like on even terms as far as they're both my are. So, but as far as power there's never yeah, they're pretty even okay. So when they fight the, everybody gets across the bridge . Gandalf stops him, and when he falls he drags Gandalf down to the, to the abyss. How come Gandalf comes back in the Balrog, doesn't?
46:25Well, I told you, Gandalf was like.
46:27Hayden:Gandalf was sent back by God but I didn't think the my ark, if I could officially die.
46:31I Mean Gandalf died like his body was.
46:36Hayden:But I thought they would just be like reincarnated kind of thing.
46:38Well, there's spirits .
46:40Hayden:Go to like okay, I was just wondering, because I know he comes back. I was wondering outside, like the plane of existence on a Gandalf comes back, so I was wondering if the Balrog come back in another form or something like that. No, okay, alright just one.
46:52I know there's a lot of like. There's no talk or anything of Balrogs being killed and then still like being reincarnated as a tree or something like you know, this is your penance, now Used to be a cool fire demon monster from hell. Now you're. Now, you're an ant, you're tiny , you're a fish.
47:15Hayden:Okay, so they come out of there. And then what? What are they?
47:19I mean in the movie, like it looks like they all just kind of stand there and watch the really cool fight happen. Yeah, which should? Have been running well, gandalf or not, gandalf turns to fight him because he has to. At that point, yeah it's like the only way, and just ended. Destroy the bridge. Airgorn and baramir go to back him up.
47:38Hayden:But I mean in the movie. Gandalf pretty much tells them the swords are worthless here.
47:43Yeah, they weren't prepared Like air going, like they weren't prepared for fighting. Yeah, and also interesting though air going already had and dureal during this whole time.
47:53Hayden:What's in dureal? The sword, the reforge sword. Oh, it was already reforged.
47:56Yeah, they reforged that in fellowship. Okay, what? At the castle Rivendell they remake the sword and then Lord of the Rings.
48:02Hayden:Well, they do it in the second movie.
48:03Third movie, third movie because air goings more in the in the books, airborne is more accepting that he has to become king.
48:10Hayden:Okay, he's not like.
48:11This quest is like make or break the, you know, deforming the kingdom of gondor and honor until the United Kingdom again. Well, he's more. He knows he's king, he's acts like he's gonna be King okay. I mean he's still awesome in the books and like super stoic and all around, just great guy without a flaw.
48:35Hayden:Now the one thing I have to ask is if Gandalf is as powerful as the ballroom, why doesn't he use more of it?
48:41Okay, and the wizards are limited. Okay like it was like their power. It's tremendous, but there when they were sent there. That's why they were made in the old men. Okay to not be tempted into like just taking over Middle Earth, like Salomon. Okay but like their powers, like they're not supposed to just outright Go nuts with power .
49:02Hayden:Okay, I just wonder.
49:05That's like when Gandalf comes back, they kind of like take, you know, give them a lot more lead on the leash, and say, no, out there and flex. Flex a little on these guys Let me know what's up . Gandalf the white, not gray.
49:19Hayden:Okay, so once they get out of the mines, then they go where.
49:24They make their way to La Florian, which is the home of Galadriel and Kelvin.
49:30Hayden:That's right. That's right, okay, oh, um, glad you know like they get there and glad you know gives them all items before they leave . So, yeah, well, when they get there, for that she they want to turn the dwarf away.
49:42They want to turn Gimli away yeah because they, the elves and dwarfs, still hate each other at this point, especially on that side of the mountain. No, no, no doors, no dwarfs have ever even been here, and this dude's just looking around, and so the elves are like, oh, like, well, like he goes, he has to go blindfolded. Okay and Gimli's like that's ridiculous. And Eragorn's just like you know. And he's like I'll go, like this has to be blindfolded too. And Eragorn's like and that cuz Legos is like well, I'm gonna be blindfolded, like I'm related to some of these people, I'm not gonna be blindfolded out here. And Eragorn's like and let's speak nothing of the stubbornness of elves. And he goes.
50:20If we go, we're all gonna be blindfolded. Happy, good, let's go. So they get led and then they're brought to Caliburn and Galadriel and Galadriel, like before the end.
50:32Hayden:In part she starts given like she talked to Frodo and he's like peers into the well.
50:37Yeah, he looks into the the water mirror okay, I forget it has. It has a cool name. I forgot what it was called, but he looks into that and she's like you know you could see what can be, what might be, what will be okay.
50:52Hayden:So it's just, it wasn't definitive. That's what's supposed to happen. No, okay. It was just a possibility of what could happen and then I Never understood why she's I mean, granted she, she sees the ring Well, why she, like, starts flipping out like she's turned an evil to begin with.
51:06I Mean cuz. She like goes through, like what would happen, like if she got it, and then she like snaps herself out.
51:17Hayden:And it's just like good funny. She's like they will love me and Rich's like what is.
51:24Bipolar blonde woman maniac.
51:30Hayden:That was kind of funny, though she kind of flips out on for a minute, but then when they get ready to leave there that she gives them all Different well, they give them the cloaks, the elven cloaks.
51:41Okay and they're like the first people aside from, like you know, the warrior elves of Lothlornian to get them and what are the orders?
51:49Hayden:was special about the cloaks.
51:51They like, they actually show, like Frodo does it in the second movie, where they fall in front of the Black gate where he pulls the clock, it looks like a rock, okay, so basically makes them Like the. Yeah okay, it's basically like you know, plus 10 stuff. Gotcha. Okay, well, it's like a lot of stuff, but it's it works out great for them. Yeah so they get those. She doesn't give Aragorn anything. Why not? Well, because already has the even star. He's got the sword.
52:23Hayden:What's the even?
52:23star the necklace that. Oh yeah, arwin gives him, and he already has the Elfstone.
52:30Hayden:What does the necklace do?
52:31That's just to get simple there, ok, thank, you so to do anything and her buying herself to a mortal like she's giving up immortality. Ok. And she's like. She's like I can't give you a gift that's greater than what you already have, and he's like that's cool. He's like, ok, he's like I got the Elf Lord's daughter, we're good. I got to say I'm going to be king. It's good to be the king. Oh, legolas is given above the Galadrum, which is like the, you know, archer elves of La Thorin . Baramir gets a golden belt, ok, which is pretty cool.
53:05Hayden:What does it do?
53:06It's just, it's just nice.
53:07Hayden:Go. It's lightweight it's nice. Ok.
53:10Stylish.
53:12Hayden:OK.
53:13It's a nice present.
53:14Hayden:I didn't know that each one of these had like the superpowers. Well, I mean.
53:17Legolas just gets a bow. I mean it's just bigger.
53:19Hayden:Well, yeah, just, nicer, he's just, he's good at it.
53:21Yeah, he's enough, he's born to be good at Sand gets rope, which was like has like, forged by like elves. Ok which is also sort of semi sentient. So pretty much unbreakable yeah for the most part pretty much OK, like comes in really good Suddenly, can be a lot longer when it really needs to be, or could be shorter when it's a little magic. It's got a little sun. It's got a little pizzazz on it . It's got a little pizzazz. Mary and Pippin get daggers from the first age OK, which is really cool.
53:49Hayden:What do I mean? What are they? What's the the same? Just really nice daggers OK.
53:53Which is really cool.
53:55Hayden:They need them.
53:56They need them Got Gimli asks for nothing and then he's like pressed. And then he asked for collagern for three for a hair from her head, because he is the whole time. He was just talking crap about elves. Yeah. He sees gladger and goes she's the hottest woman I've ever seen in my entire life Like holy crap, yes, what's up? Hey Gimli, my boys call me G or whatever, so he's macking on a gladger. Yeah, he's like. She's the prettiest person I've ever. She's gorgeous, she's better than anything I've ever seen. Gulled, all of it. No, no, no, no. Gladger Top Top Number one forever. And so gladger gives them three . And there's significance because during before the first age of Middle Earth, feynore was macking on gladger.
54:43Ok. And asked her for one of his exes. He was going to set it in gems.
54:47Hayden:So she was around.
54:48Yeah, yeah, she's that old.
54:50Hayden:I thought she was still a kid at that age, though.
54:51No, ok, no, she's full grown. Ok, it's how old she is.
54:54Hayden:OK.
54:55Yeah, rings of power just disregarded all that.
54:57Hayden:I got you. That's why I was like kind of curious, yeah, where she's like elf kindergarten or something out there on recess.
55:01And then guy lad drew the barbarian Also a crock of nonsense. Don't get me started on rings of power. I'm going to start cursing. I don't have to do the hot sauce, I'm not starting out the new year like that. So she gives them three because she was just turning down. So when he's like, like what did she give you? She gave me three of them. And Legolas smiles because they know that, like like Feynor, like prime time playboy number one of the elves of the Noldor, like the super, super, these are the dudes that fought Balrogs regularly and won.
55:37Hayden:Well, feynor, he actually confronted Morgoth at one point, right? No?
55:40he's killed by the king of the Balrogs or the commander of the Balrogs.
55:46Hayden:Which one is it that they've been to find? Morgoth Fingolfin?
55:50Yeah, fingolfin goes to find him and fights him for like three days before he's eventually he eventually gets tired.
55:57Hayden:I know one of those guys like face him head on.
55:59These were those kinds of dudes, those were those kinds of elves. So he gets those, which he eventually sets in stone and makes it like the heirloom of his house, because they like glow, like someral. And then they go on their merry way down the river where, because they already know Gala's been following them since Moria , which they knew that in Moria they know he's following them on the river. And as they go they eventually get attacked by. Well, they make it to the shore . Their plan is to like cross, go through like Emmy Muiil, which is like a labyrinth of razor sharp rocks, according to Gimli. Ok. And like impassable most of the time. But Aragorn's like, we'll get through there, don't worry about
56:41it. And then they're going to make their way to Mordor.
56:46Hayden:Well, at the end of the movie they win Frodo and Aragorn and the rest of them part ways. There are some kind of ruins there. What is that?
56:56Oh Amon Hen. Yeah, what is that? Just an outpost of Gondor. Oh, I'm not sure if it was like an old second age kingdom that was falling apart or something Part of Gondor at its height, because even when they're going down the river, they go through the Argonath, which is the two great statues of a seal door. Ok, and then this is the part where that's like the border of Gondor, Like hey, you're entering Gondor so at this point .
57:20Hayden:That's when Frodo and Sam kind of part ways and Aragorn is left to fight the Uruk Eye by himself for the most .
57:26Well, frodo wanders off because, God forbid, he stays with the group. Barmy heard he wandered off to go find Firewood. He meets Frodo, he succumbs to the ring briefly, ok, and then trips and falls and smacks his head on a rock and realizes what he did. And well, actually, the book ends just prior to that, ok, where they make it to the river and camp for the night, like that's the end of the fellowship .
57:52Hayden:OK when they split up as part of the two towers.
57:56Yeah, that's the opening chapter.
57:57Hayden:OK.
57:58Departure of Boromir Gotcha. Two towers is the opener, but Frodo runs. They're like it's much more frantic in the book where they're just getting attacked by orcs everywhere which they really to be the oracai from Senpai Salomon earlier. So they fight with them. Marion Pippen are captured. Boromir is brought down In the book. He's brought down by like 20 plus arrows, like they pink cushioned him to stop him and they talk about it like in the two towers. They're like, you know, like the oracai, like we're going this way in New York, so like no , we work for sorrow, we're going this way, get wrecked because they cut one of their heads off, and it's like we're bigger than you, we're doing what we say, we're calling an Isengard and it's like we killed
58:40the great warrior, like the orcs even were, like we killed the great warrior, like we had to fight that guy. That dude dropped everybody that we sent before. We just shot him with arrows to try to kill him.
58:51Hayden:And even then it wasn't working for like the first 10.
58:53He wasn't even slowing up Because, like when they find Boromir, like his sword's broken partially from fighting, Like the ground is just covered in bodies and then there's Boromir resting against the tree, All the bodies are just in front of him. It's like Boromir just took out like 30 orcs while getting lit up by arrows at the same, like just like a G, and he still manages to tell Aragorn kind of what happened and like they kind of make up and then before he could tell him which hop it's where captured, he dies.
59:20Hayden:OK.
59:22And then they obviously give him his funeral boat moment. And then Aragorn already met with Frodo, knows he left. They were like, oh, they've crossed the shore, and like it's like, all right, let's go. And Aragorn is just like their fate's out of our hands now, it's just good luck. Well, they got the one boat Like they could have went. They could have went, but Aragorn, just like he's like the choice. It's just like Sam and Frodo are now on their own going that way and it's like, oh, we're just going to let Marion Pippin get like ripped apart and interrogated and tortured by the white wizard.
1:00:01Hayden:Fate of the world. Two hoppings, I don't know. It's kind of the fate of the world, or two hobbits.
1:00:08I mean, I understand, but Aragorn, because they talk about once they cross, like as they get to more, like who would go? And it would be Frodo, sam, aragorn and Gimli would be the four who would try to make it into there.
1:00:21Hayden:OK.
1:00:22So I mean there's more in the book where, like they kind of go through like who would get to? Like make it, like the others would just be like sent home or sent to Gondor, like the rest would go with Baramir to back to Gondor. Ok. Because Baramir is along the way for the ride pretty much until like he got home. So he was just getting a ride. Once they passed by his house.
1:00:44Hayden:He just hopped on the back of the train.
1:00:47Yeah, pretty much, Pretty much. He's like which way?
1:00:50Hayden:are you guys going? What a cheapskate.
1:00:52He's like Hayden he Haydened his way up.
1:00:58Hayden:Yeah, I'll travel with you guys. You guys look like good warriors till I get home.
1:01:02Yeah, you guys look like you're pretty good with swords and weapons and stuff.
1:01:04Hayden:Maybe not these midgets, but OK, so, and then that's kind of where the movie ends off is.
1:01:13Yeah, aragorn, legos and Gimli resolve to hunt down the orcs and rescue Marion Pippin.
1:01:21Hayden:OK, so I have two more questions.
1:01:24How many questions did you have entirely?
1:01:25Hayden:Well, actually I have one more question. No, yeah, one more question. I had 16 total and I answered 15 of them.
1:01:32Yeah, well, as we were going along Within an hour.
1:01:34Hayden:Yeah, as we were going along, I kind of answered them. I kind of asked you about them, but the last one that I had is what are the Urukhi?
1:01:42So the Urukhi are a cross between orcs and goblin men, is what they say in the Because I thought all of Sarra, all of Sarra. Sarra.
1:01:53Hayden:Sarra's forces couldn't come out in the daylight Like I thought they had to all be.
1:01:58Can go out in daylight. Ok. It hurts a lot. They don't move as fast. They're miserable. It hurts them. Ok. They fight in the dark. It's easier, it's better for them. They don't. They're an underground, almost like subterranean group, but they do well at nighttime.
1:02:14Hayden:OK.
1:02:15The Uruk-hai. I mean it still bugs them, but like to a tenth of the scale. They're still beyond formidable and fully capable and fast.
1:02:25Hayden:Okay.
1:02:25And they can run like Olympians.
1:02:29Hayden:And how did they create them?
1:02:30Like I mean, because they, that's what in the books the Uruk-hai or in the movie Gandalf's. Like you know, Saruman's like creating an army in the pits of Isengard.
1:02:38Hayden:He's crossed orcs with goblin men, but so basically, these creatures didn't exist at all in any time until this point.
1:02:44Yeah, Uh the Uruk-hai . Well, Saruman has Uruk-hai.
1:02:49Hayden:OK, and.
1:02:50I'm pretty sure he pitched the recipe. Ok, I'll say so to speak because there's still a lot of debate as to how orcs are really created.
1:02:56Hayden:Well, I was wondering how, like Saruman, or Saruman like, created its own you know creature, but I just wondered they still leave.
1:03:05It's an ambiguous topic.
1:03:07Hayden:OK.
1:03:08But basically he makes juggernaut. Yeah, Because like regular orcs they're like five foot, five, five. Yeah they're bow legged. They got really long arms yeah they got a drag. They're strong as hell Like they're stronger than normal men , most like the average people. And you know very quick, especially in the dark, they're very capable warriors. The Uruk-hai are like six foot to six, five, yeah and jacked.
1:03:34Hayden:Well, yeah, because, like I mean, and smarter jump, jump on a head a little bit. You see the in the. Was it the two towers we see like the ripped one? Come running with the light, the torch thing.
1:03:44Yeah, yeah, two arrows like right through his traps into his, like you know, heart and lungs. Yeah. Like through the top of his rib cage. Basically, it's like you play like an NFL game and it's like you play as the player. Then you could do create a player and turn everything to 11 . Yeah.
1:03:58Hayden:That's what the Uruk-hai were. Yeah, ok, I was just wondering because, like like, from what I understood in the movie, like these were brand new creatures that had never existed before, so I wasn't sure.
1:04:10They were. They're very recent. OK, a group of people, even when everyone's fighting. I mean Lurz, that's not in the book, lurz was created for the movie, just so they could have like a leadership work that you could be like, oh, he must be in charge instead of just a wrap of love and running around going . Who are these people Like? They kind of. And even Sam, I like explains to him when he's talking to him. And Eisenhower, he's like do you know, the orcs first came into beings Like. They were elves once. They were OK and they were taking torture to, mutilated into orcs OK. But even when he stabs him in the leg with the dagger, yeah, he takes it out, licks the blood off and throws it at him.
1:04:45Yeah, he wasn't supposed to throw it directly at Vigilmore and so, because he got the prosthetics to make up the contacts, he can't see it like barely anything. Yeah, so he like caught him in his peripheral and turned to just throw it away from, but he just beamed it right at his face Like that thing was coming. You see, like at least like the look of sheer panic for a second. He's like looking for a sword hit like oh crap, because it's coming right at me, so he's thing and nails it like right out of the air and like that was the real dagger, that was sharp , that was metal, that thing was coming out of you. Just throw it away and, like you know, we'll make it look cool. Yeah. No, try to kill Vigilmore.
1:05:21And thank God, Because even Bob Anderson, he did Star Wars, Princess Bride, like Gladiator. I think, like all these amazing sort of. That's probably wrong. I don't know if you did Gladiator, but this one in there , like he did like all these sword fighting movies, taught people how to use swords. Like he was like the expert, the dude, like if you're in a movie with a lot of sword fighting, you hire him because he's going to teach all your actors how to do it the right way. Ok, and he did like even then he was older. And Vigilmore it's like, yeah, he'd be sitting there in a chair with a sword, like lean to the side. And he'd tell the orcs he's like, all right, come on. Like one of them will come at him and he just like, flick his
1:05:59wrist, he goes sword, go flying, almost kill PA. And he's like go pick it up. And he's like you're holding it too tight. And he come back, knock it right out of the other hand, send it to flying the other way goes to lose. And they're just like, but he says like Vigilmore was the best actor he ever trained. Ok, Like everybody who was like like proficient with hand to hand weapons. Vigilmore was in a totally different group. It was like damn he's actually really good.
1:06:27Hayden:Well, now for the bad news, tom they're going to reboot.
1:06:31What women?
1:06:32Hayden:probably.
1:06:34Aragorn a froda.
1:06:37Hayden:So so Sammy what do you think about a reboot of Lord of the?
1:06:40Rings. I think it's stupid. There's literally no reason at all. There's no reason whatsoever. Those movies I mean, yes, is stuff left out, absolutely. Did they take some liberty, like the Elves showing up at Helms Deep? That didn't happen in the book. Condensing things, cutting stuff, you know, but they made it all that material was made in the one linear plot. That was easy to follow. They got as much content as humanly possible. That was so well done. It still looks great today on Blu-rayer and 4K Perfectly cast, perfectly. Every single one of those people. You read the book. You picture them now. Yeah. There's like it is a 10 out of 10 effort. Ok what they did, and rebooting it is a slap in the face.
1:07:28It's stupid, it's shallow, pedantic. Some of these words don't even apply. It's borderline chicanery.
1:07:38Hayden:I don't know if they're actually going to reboot it. I just want to see what you think you know.
1:07:41I'm not even surprised, because I saw some article they were talking about like they were going to redo it. It's like, oh, it's been like 20 years, it's like we can redo that. It's just like no. And people are just like no, like stop, Like that's like. That's like redoing, like the first Jaws movie. Yeah. Or like the first Godfather, or Star Wars. Well, I mean, they just keep ruining Star Wars with Kathleen Kennedy.
1:08:02Hayden:Don't worry, they'll go beat that horse dead.
1:08:05That horse is dead. Mitch Mitch, that horse has been dead since 2015.
1:08:08Hayden:Don't worry, we'll watch those punishment movies yeah.
1:08:11I mean I already watched Russian War, the Rings, whatever that was Gollum, but he had like a skin like like a bald cap on and lettuce like taped to his ears. I had to watch that.
1:08:24Hayden:Oh well, it's pretty much it for the Lord of the Rings movie, right.
1:08:29Yeah, I mean I could keep going and point out stuff, but that was probably about as good as we're going to get for about an hour's time, unless you really want to sit here.
1:08:37Hayden:We can drag it out for another two hours, right?
1:08:40I mean, I could. I'd rather not just drag it out , so I like how you had like a two pages worth of questions and as I went through you were just like crossing stuff out like oh yeah because either you had mentioned it or I would, or I just ask you about it while we're on that topic. So not bad that we got to the end of that and you only had just one that I didn't touch on.
1:08:59Hayden:Yeah, cause we didn't really talk a whole lot about the Yerka. I told you OK, yeah, yeah, yeah , yeah, that was an episode.
1:09:07It's not bad. It's not bad at all. We did that. Hey, it's gonna be like God. I'm gone for first half. There are you doing the Lord of the Rings? What's next? Elden Ring yeah, turn in next week for me and Mitch's Elden Ring report. We made new characters.
1:09:22Hayden:Now, if you say, if you like this, we're going to continue. We're going to finish the two towers, the return of the king, and then we'll move on to some other stuff. Next week we're going to kind of like bi-weekly do the Lord of the Rings. Next week we're going to have our review from a suggested punishment movie which is a Megalon.
1:09:43So the meme of Godzilla sliding on his tail to do the double kick, that's this movie.
1:09:48Hayden:I learned that, so we're going to do that. Well, I have a couple of reviews and news in the next episode, so just tune in. Keep checking us out.
1:09:56If you or don't, but it'd be cool if you did.
1:09:59Hayden:If you like our stuff , share it with others.
1:10:01Share our grab a person on the street. Yeah, put that episode on speaker and hold it up to him Listen.
1:10:08Hayden:Yeah, we can always use more listeners, no matter how many we have. Listeners, listeners, yeah, you heard me. Listeners.
1:10:14They're listeners, but better because they're G's.
1:10:18Hayden:So you know, tune in next week We'll have a little bit different stuff and then we'll see what we'll come up with this year. Missing our third.
1:10:26We're doing our best right now.
1:10:28Hayden:We're a tripod.
1:10:30It's January and we're struggling.
1:10:34Hayden:We'll be making. I hope so Next time.
1:10:38On entertain this, this, this this this this. Yeah, there it goes. That was for you, hey. I thought I didn't have to live with that anymore. What?
